Met ricky Hatton as most people have round here at some point , really nice guy and signed a pair of boxing gloves for me for my birthday. Tyson fury -i was shitfaced and Fell through the toilet doors in bahbars in town n said " **** me i thought you were a big ****er on tv" obviously not an ideal opener haha but nah he was a really nice guy chatted to him in toilets for about 5 minutes and he was tellin me about his fight with Rich Power a couple of days before then had a pic taken with my mate. and 1 o Jamie Moores kids stood on my foot in Greggs in Denton - for some reason i was proper starstruck and didnt say anything..youd think id seen megan foxx haha
Each time he fought and every **** came out in high-visibility jackets did it for me, working class hero. I miss Munroe like I miss Tony Oakey. Captured the moment.
Noel Wilders lives in my area and I got Ricky Hatton's autograph after boxing in front of him but thats about it really.
ive met gomez as well...in lloyds bar in the printworks in town, sound lad, i suppose its cos we were all kissin his arse about the arthur fight lol had a few beers with him and a laugh as well
Met David Price twice briefly. Saw him going into Longmoor Lane boxing gym in Liverpool for a quick session (drives a gorgeous BMW). My works was next door and I saw him as I walking past. Said "alright Pricey lad" and he smiled and said hi. This was a few weeks before the McDermott fight. The second time it was in the same place but I got to speak to him a bit more and it was before the Harrison fight. Was proper sound and said he didn't think he'd be able to knock out Audley very quick. How wrong he was! Saw Stephen Smith run past me on a jog once with his "Swifty Smith" hoody on. He had ear phones on though so I didn't say anything.
Carl Froch, Rendall Munroe, Jason Booth, James DeGale, Ryan Rhodes, Ian Napa and a few others. Can honestly say that every single one of them were very accomodating and a pleasure to speak to. Always been massive fans of Froch, Munroe and Napa, but never really liked DeGale untill i met him. Was surprised at how big he was for 12 stone aswell. Met Rhodes at the Echo shortly after his fight with Jamie Moore and remember being surprised at how small he was. I was about 145 at the time and he didn't look much bigger, if at all.
Met Steve Collins once and had a good chat with him he drinks in my uncles boozer. He's a nice bloke and doesn't mind having a chat with anyone but during our conversation he took a phone call from someone informing him of some bad news, it was to do with one of his horses, and he suddenly looked really pissed off and seemed ****ing scary afterwards. Also met Howard Eastman a few times and he is a lovely guy, really friendly, only other boxer I can think of off the top of my head is Terry Downes. He was also very nice but was pretty old when I met him and I think it's fair to say all the punches he took have left him in a slightly altered state which wasn't nice to see.
Sugar ray, Barry Mcguigan,Mick,Bunce,Simpson,McDonell DE Gale, Mitchell, Joe and John Murray The Smiths Derry Bellew Crolla Brook countless others the only boxers i've met that were dicks was Brook and Mcguigan
Mentioned it another thread today but Enzo Mac was one of my guests in Gran Canaria during my holiday rep days. He was a proper nice guy and had time for the few people that recognized him. One day he came into my office and complained about people at the pool playing music too loud, apparently he'd asked them to turn it down and they told him to **** off lol. Little old me went straight down to the pool and they **** themselves as soon as they saw me and turned the music down. Strange feeling when you inspire more fear than a CW boxing champ does, especially as I'm 5' 5" and 10 stone. . . Almost forgot I went to school with Ritchie Evatt (RIP). **** kicked me off the table tennis table at break-time and it very nearly came to blows, lucky escape for me.
Saw Steve Robinson in Liverpool City Centre, he just nodded and i nodded back. It was the standard "Black Man Acknowledgement". It happens all the time! If you are in a predominately non-multicultural area. Most brothers will acknowledge other brothers. Sometimes its not even about that, its just alpha makes acknowledging other alpha's. This was years ago.
Quite a few down the years. Off the top of my head though; Nigel Benn, Tyson Fury, John Murray, Joe Murray, Michael Gomez, Tony Bellew, Ricky Burns, Bradley Skeete, Enzo Mac, James DeGale, There's a couple more in there and I know I'm missing a high profile one, but can't for the life of me think back to who it was or what card it was at.
Met Ricky Hatton,Bernard Dunne and Tyson Fury,Hatton was ok but his minder was a ***** to me,Bernard Dunne is a gent and Tyson Fury posed for a few pictures and seemed a good guy..
