    Vilomar Fernarndez MD10 Alexis Arguello

    Arguello: 6,7,9,10
    Fernandez: 1,2,3,5,8,
    Even: 4.

So I had it very close at 5-4-1, but this is still a pretty horrible performance form Arguello. He's got every single conceivable outside of style, but looks plodding and lacking in variety. It wasn't until the eighth that he even looked a little like he might be interested in pursuing a body attack even though he was really struggling to land to the head, even compromising that great temperament with a real show of frustration. Although his footwork remained pretty good, he struggled to get set and get off. The kindest thing you can say is that he was landing exclusively the hardest stuff and that there was a period in the middle rounds where it felt a little inevitable that he would get home with something horrible, plus a ragged tenth means Arguello was likely to have found a way over 15.

Arguello was capable of being pretty dire in ten round fights.

Not entirely sure if it was just a matter of fighters giving him movement, or if there was an element of him being unable to change the his pacing from 15 rounders.

Makes you wonder about him vs movers over the newer distance...

The movers nowadays aren't as cultured. Arguello would likely be fighting at 122 today, he'd have Mijares, Mares, Nishioka, Donaire, Rigo' to deal with in recent years :smoke

I had Griffith a pretty clear winner in second Paret fight. Scrappy bout, though Griffith did the much cleaner punching. If you gave Paret any of the pretty inconsequential first three rounds it'd be closer, but for me he wasn't landing any cleaner than Griffith and the champion was initiating the close quarters battle.

The fight where Emile went negative. Still, I felt he was hard done by not to keep his title.

    Rewatched Laguna-Ortiz/Mando.

Mayweather wishes he'd look as good against Castillo as Laguna did against Ortiz.
Especially considering the size difference between Ortiz and Laguna.

Great blend of hand speed, foot speed and balance.
    Excellent inverted 1-2 combinations.

Ramos performed much better than I remember him to be - he put up a strong effort.
It did look like Laguna's legs weren't the same anymore versus Mando.

Really enjoy fights with no commentary at all.

Those first two Griffith paret bouts are among the worst in Welter title history.

I couldn't argue if anyone left Griffith out of their top one thousand after seeing them.

He didn't need to kill the guy to make up for it though.

    Went a bit too far.

For some reason I don't mind the second fight either.

Perhaps because I've seen quite a bit of Griffith and I can understand how really bad his fights can get when he leans on guys and tries to outmuscle em.

Griffith-Paret II is not amongst the worst of his.

For the recond I think i had Paret edging it, but I have an agenda against Griffith of almost Hopkinsian proportions.

Griffith's kayo in first fight makes it worth watching. I can stomach watching him apart from the 2nd Monzon fight.

Lester; great post. Yes, Laguna was much better than Floyd is.

I actually like Griffith's style for the most part.Kalule'esque subtle technique with a chin, minus some of the smooth upperbody stuff and with occasional truly awful ugly mauling infighting.

Beautiful jab too, though like DLH he often seemed to have trouble getting it going right if the other fighter had a strong jab and workrate with it.

I like that he had that extra string to his bow, personally, getting in there and being all evil.
