A lot of people are syaing this will be an easy fight for Broner.
Let me explain why I think it'll be a much harder fight for Broner than many believe.

    1.Size
Paulie is a full WW, used to fighting WW or at least big LWW's like Cotto and Hatton. Broner wont be able to boss this fight physically. Looking like a beast at 130/135 is a lot different from fighting at 147.

    2.Style
When you think of the guys that have beaten Paulie(Khan,Diaz(kinda),Cotto,Hatton), they all had a high tempp or relentless style. Paulie couldnt keep them off with his flicky jabs,so they all walked him down, and overwhelmned him.
Broner doesnt fight like that, he lets the other guy come to him,and take him apart like his idol Mayweather.
Paulie isnt going to just walk to him like DeMarco and Rees.

    3.Paulies under-rated
He doesnt have power, but hes am experiened, skilled fighter. He's got a fast jab and has a good ring IQ.
Hes also about as tough as any fighter out there. The beatings he took from Cotto,Hatton and Khan without wilting were impressive.
He wont be over-awed by Broner.

    4. Home town advantage.

Paulie is fighting front of his home town fans. This may give him a boost, and who knows maybe give hime a couple of points of the cards!:yep

So all in all,I really dont see how hes a 9-1 under dog. He will probably get beaten, but this will be much more competitive than people are thinking.

    Broner will more likely win.

Paulie is probably better to pick for a better. (good betting odds)

I might just place a cheeky bet on Paulie for this fight, even though I suspect Broner has a little too much for him at this stage of his career.

Paulie is NOT a full sized/ big WW. That version of Cotto he took on back in the day was a beast, but a Junior Welter.

If Paulie fought a full size 147 lber champ with power in their punches, I don't think he'd be able to make it through the full 12 rds.

He's a slick boxer with good combinations, but he has pillows in his fists and he's slowed down a bit the past 2 years or so. He couldn't even knock out average fighters in lighter weights. With Paulie, you can be assured his fights almost always will go the distance, especially in recent memory.

That's why i don't look at this fight as being such an obstacle for Broner. It's not like he's going up 2 weight classes and taking on a BIG Welter. If Paulie shows in the 1st round that his punches aren't packing any power (which will most be the case,) than Broner should break him down in the later rounds. Either late stoppage or Wide UD for Broner in Paulie's backyard.

it sounds good but the magic man will get stopped in this fight. broner will be faster and punching harder then the magic man. also magic will not be able to out think broner in the ring as well. you have to open your eyes to see how broner is 9 - 1 favor. its cool though, some know what it is already and some will still have to find out later. at the end of the day you will find out why. but the flip side is that the magic thinks the same way you think, so even if its you and magic man in that boat you are not in it alone. broner tko 7 !

    1. Size - Broner is a gigantic lightweight & super feather, and has missed weight several times (even flaunting it, the dick) and dwarfed almost every opponent he shares the ring with. He would be large at 140lbs as well, IMO, and won't be a tiny welter. Paulie isn't a natural welter, and is on the smallish side. He looked a shrimp opposite Senchenko - average sized at 147 - and Cano, a career lightweight/light welter (although he was admittedly big for his britches and usually the 'bigger man' at both weights).

    2. Style - there isn't really a common thread between Khan, Diaz, Hatton and Cotto. (let's throw in Ngoudjo and Cano, who both really troubled Malignaggi and could have realistically taken a fair draw with or victory over him respectively) Paulie is beatable in more than one way. Broner might be as well, but so far nobody has exposed it. He doesn't always lay back and counter. Eloy Perez (a decent fighter, but way too small) tried boxing from the outside behind a flicking jab, and Broner harassed and clobbered him with an unyielding in and out press. He did the same to Litzau, stalking on the front foot playing cat and mouse for all three minutes it took for his power and Litzau's chin to solve their inevitable equation. Malignaggi is slick enough defensively to offset a lot of styles and disrupt a lot of quality boxers' rhythms - but not all, and with less and less consistency the higher up the elite ladder he climbs. Intense low-center-of-gravity tank-like body-smashing pressure like Cotto brought, darting straight in with quick jolting can't-miss forehead jabs and 1-2s like Khan did, psyching Malignaggi out with forward movement and jerky lean-backs and shoulder rolls to draw him into leading before answering with ambush bursts of counter fire like Ngoudjo did, simply lawn-sprinkling leather at him like Torito did, or bullying him with ever more accurate counters in a slow burn like Cano did after scouting and getting the number of his jab for the first half. Completely different approaches, all effective at making Paulie less effective and piling damage on him. (and ultimately either beating him or coming within reasonable distance) Broner is FAST of mitt - something Malignaggi is accustomed to holding the advantage in. The one time he was clearly disadvantaged there, Khan smacked him silly. Broner is versatile. Malignaggi has looked his best against those who basically only do one sort of thing (N'Dou gaining inch by inch with a high guard or Philly shell, putting out a strong but not exactly sneaky jab and using no angles...Senchenko with his very straightforward upright Euro jab-cross-repeat paradigm...Cherry yawing and pitching in close enough to chuck hooking bombs regardless of what he must walk through, etc.). Broner can when he wants to slip punches coming forward and should be able to even slip Malignaggi's fast punches - which can get untidy and roam a bit especially when he's being pushed backward - but doesn't even need to as Malignaggi could probably land several flush uppercuts on the bottom of his jaw and not make an eyelash bat. Broner is strong enough to abuse Malignaggi against the corner or ropes if they remain close enough to slug - but he probably won't be the least bit fussed if Malignaggi elects for a ranged archery contest, having the longer reach and the ability to fluidly and with accuracy land both his jab and pull-counter right from even a slack pose outside.

    3. He is underrated by some (namely those who insisted he would never hold another title, obviously, for starters) and does make the most of what he does have in lieu of power, and some of his losses - more the one-sided nature of them and his disappointing performance in them, I'm not so much saying the results would necessarily be different - can be in part blamed on his terrible chemistry with Buddy McGirt during that regressive dark period, and since parting ways he is looking much improved - but the last person he was in with of comparable pedigree to Broner is Khan, against whom (regardless of excuses/circumstances) he took a pasting - and I honestly think Broner is already better now than Khan.

    4. Paulie was booed in Brooklyn when the SD was announced in his favor against Cano. His three most brutally painful nights in the ring of his pro career (two losses, and one that arguably ought to have been one) all took place in NYC. I don't know that being at home is going to necessarily drum up warm & fuzzy memories to boost his confidence nor guarantee the fans are unconditionally supportive of him enough to feed off emotionally.

9/1 might be slightly long, but I have a feeling that in hindsight Broner's welterweight run is going to make people wonder how anyone doubted a dominant outcome here even with him skipping an entire class to wet his toes at 147 by challenging a solid and underrated veteran titlist with plenty of seasoning and ring IQ.

I agree and have said as much in other threads that Paulie is being overlooked here. He has the style to really test Broner. His jab is good he has quick hands isn't there to be hit is tough and his a high ring IQ. If he beat Broner it wouldn't surprise me. Broner is moving up two weight classes to fight him. People undersell Paulie because of his lack of power but power alone doesn't win fights skills do and Paulie has plenty of them.

I think Malinaggi has a lot that can make it difficult but i just think when your so far dwarfed in power and the opponent is as fast and skilled its a real up hill battle

I think Broner might have questionable stamina but i dont think Malinaggi will test it

i think Broners defense is too tight for Paulie

That was during the Buddy days. I'll not hold that one against him.

He did - and this can't be attributed to who sat in his corner - get out-sped and out-jabbed by Khan, though. Broner has as much speed and much better aim/timing than Khan. That to me is more telling.

He looked decent against Senchenko, who is rubbish.

    Not quite brilliant.

Not, "Hey, Paulie could be 50-50 with a new p4p star coming into their prime..."
