Calzaghe didnt set the world alight as an amateur. Neither did Froch, he won a bronze a world championships, hadly mindblowing. Hopkins had little in the way of a notable amateur career.
What's up, my man? Long time no post (or at least I haven't seen them). You an I will have lots of good times watching Loma in the next few years! :deal
Hello to you as well mate, I haven't been posting in the general as much. Been hanging in the lounge :good
Russell Jr. was a good amateur so by their definition that should be enough.:nut Nah but seriously Russell Jr. is already more proven than Loma as a pro. I think he would work Loma.
So, long story short, Loma has the tools to do great things. I hope he does, theres a lot of great fights in and around his weight in the next few years as a pro. Donaire could well move up for example. Gamboa will still eb around. Mikey Garcia will be around. Great fights.
When you see Jose Ramirez (US), Oscar Valdez (MEX) and Felix Verdajo (Puerto Rico) winning titles as pros make sure you remember that they are all Lomachenko victims.
It's not so much his lack of success as an amateur, it's more to do with him struggling against the likes of PDL, viewing Gavin Rees as a good win, fighting Malignaggi next and being unprofessional outside of the ring. We'll wait and see, I'm more sold on Lomachenko's pro success in the future that Broner's success in the future, and by a large margin. My mindset is one that is stuck completely in the present, Mexico has always been the exception but US boxing doesn't have the talent coming through. Broner and Russell at this stage are on the same career projectory as the likes of Berto and Lacy, a lot of hype before failing at the elite stage, just like in the amateurs. Until they prove otherwise.
Obviously Tyson always had a style disadvantage in the amateurs. So does Lomachenko, but he has won everything. You keep clinging to the exceptions instead of the norm, generally if you have a good amateur career you have a good pro career, generally if you outbox someone at a comparable stage as an amateur you'll outbox them in the pro game as well. Nothing in the world is 100%, but Lomachenko dominating in the pros later this year and beyond is about as sure a bet as you can get.
