I don't think Marciano qualifies, here. I've never heard a bad word about him from those who met him and he did a lot for others, too. He went over and visited troops in Vietnam in the late 1960s, for example. He was one of the few celebrities willing to actually support those who were sent there rather than protest anything involved with the war.

He reportedly never refused an autograph and was also known to go out of his way to be good to his fans who were kids.

He was indeed notoriously frugal and he had a temper, but that doesn't make him a bad person. He became a bit of a womanizer after he retired, but again, plenty of really nice people were womanizers.

Rocky, by all accounts, was a very, very nice man.
