I think it's strange that people seem to give Vasyl more chance against Gamboa than Vasyl against Broner.. Gamboa is easily the more proven guy at pro level compared to Broner, also more athletic with an olympic gold to his name. Predominantly US posters on this forum?
Broner is a lot bigger that's the main reason. Also Broner has looked a lot better(no homo) compared to Gamboa in recent fights.
Is Broner bigger? In his mug shot it said that Broner was weighing 145 (walking around weight). In his last fight he weighed 150, fully hydrated and fed for his contest. Gamboa weighed 149 in the ring in his last fight. Broner is the same height as Lomachenko (170cm v 169cm v 166cm for Gamboa). 4cm difference in height between the three of them, that's nothing. Broner was getting hit by Rees, Gamboa was against a very good puncher, an explosive fighter who was there to win. For me Gamboa was far more impressive than Broner in his last fight. They have a common opponent in the last two years as well, PDL. Broner arguably lost that fight and Gamboa was pitching a shutout before it was stopped.
Some people used to say that the reason they didn't like Pacquiao was that his fans hyped him up too much, which at the time, I thought was kind of stupid, but to a certain extent, I can see where they were coming from...this Lomachenko hype is starting to get out of hand. I do like the guy, and knew about him before a lot of you did. I've followed him since '08 - before he even went to the Olympics. I am really looking forward to seeing what he becomes in the future, but for crissakes, people...slow the **** down. Gamboa would crush him if they fought today. I've seen sparring sessions in which a really good amateur is in against a seasoned pro. The amateur will start off great, maybe even getting the better of the pro, but then the pro's experience comes into play, and the amateur starts getting whupped. That's how I see a fight with Gamboa going. Lomachenko is exceptional. More advanced than his pro record indicates, a la Rigo, but no way in hell is he ready for even semi elite level pros like Broner and Gamboa.
I took you off ignore. Hopefully, you can have a discussion w/o resorting to personal attacks just because you disagree with what I am saying. Anyway. You brought up how Broner didn't look flawless against Rees, well, Vasyl Lomachenko didn't look flawless in his march to the gold medal in London. I think he beat a Cuban guy by the skin of his teeth, if I remember correctly. I watched all of his fights, and I recall, none of them were exactly easy, apart from the first one, I think...he did breeze through the competition in '08, though. The last time we spoke, when you decided to talk **** about me, I mentioned how he didn't look spectacular in his WSB fights, and I stand by that. I've watched both fights several times. Do you watch American football? To use an analogy, it was like a team beating another team 14-0. A shut out, sure, but they didn't exactly steamroll the other team. The WSB fights were fought and scored in a pro style...no real reason why Lomachenko shouldn't have stopped both guys.
Okay, I didn't realize Lomachenko had a third wsb fight, against the guy he fought the first time...watched it, and once again, he won 14-0 (if you know what I mean). His next match is against Selimov...this will be very interesting.
Perhaps some of the British poster's can tell us what it would have been if it was a cricket match? Never could wrap my brain around that sport. Selimov will not take a round against Lomachenko this Saturday.
Toledo is MILES ahead of a fighter like Rees in terms of skill and boxing IQ, Toledo would easily pick up a pro title if he wanted to. Olympic fights aren't meant to be easy, Rees would never come near an olympic medal, and Lomachenko claims he had to fight differently just to get the points on the board to win his matches. The fact is he is 396-1 as an amateur, that's unheard of. He has always found a way to win, over only 3-4 rounds. Lomachenko isn't a guy who is looking to go out and get a knockout, he works on different things every fight. There aren't many knockouts in the WSB, these are top guys who only have 5 rounds in there with bigger gloves than are used in the pros. 5 rounds isn't a long time to assert your dominance. Lomachenko has won every round he's fought with no problem, you can't ask for anything more than that. These aren't the typical bums a pro faces in the WSB, these are top fighters who are well aware of Lomachenko's reputation. Even with his opponents fighting defensively and negatively he has still found a way to score knockdowns and dominate. If you don't understand that then that's fine, you'll change your tune when he knocks out everyone as a pro. Even if he doesn't, Pernell Whitaker was still dominant without scoring stoppages. Boxing isn't just about posturing and scoring knockouts, it's the work in between that counts and Lomachenko is flawless in that domain.
Selimov has the best chance of beating Lomachenko out of anyone over the next few years. For people who don't know Albert Selimov gave Lomachenko his only loss as an amateur at the World's in 2007. It was at 57kg, Lomachenko had just moved up to the seniors and he weighed 54kg in that division. He met the Russian Selimov in the final and lost a disputed decision. In 2008 at the olympics they drew each other in the first round. Selimov got off to an early lead before Lomachenko clawed it back to win 14-7. There was a lot of tension in that fight, Selimov hitting after the break, refusing to shake Lomachenko's hand etc. Lomachenko went on to win the gold. Fast forward to now and both Selimov are competing in the WSB competition for the first time, 5 rounds with no headgear and pro rules. Selimov is 4-0 and is ranked #1 at lightweight, Lomachenko is 3-0 and ranked #3. The fight between the two on saturday will be in Selimov's teams home stadium (Azerbaijan). So the crowd will be for Selimov, the only guy to hand Lomachenko a loss. Their third fight, the first with no headgear and over 5 rounds with pro scoring. Selimov is very good, as a young amateur he fought already gold medallist Gamboa. Here's some grainy footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPM7dWX_CC0
Okay, now you're making sense...I don't know much about the WSB...I'm just calling it like I see it w/o knowing all the details. I still don't, however, think Lomachenko is already on a elite pro level. It may work like that with newbies in other sports, but not in boxing. His fight against Selimov should answer a lot of questions...the last time he fought Selimov, he looked like a track star in that last round.
thats coz he whooped his ass the 2nd and 3rd round lol if he didnt dislike him so much im sure he wouldnt of moved so much in that last round!!! :deal but yall are bugging im obviously very biased towards Lom but you need to give him a few pro fights before starting to compare him to other young boxers (world champs) even though he looked very good in WSB and the fight with selimov will prove a lot as well as i believe both of them will do well at pro level!!!
Styles makes fights.Ppl keep talking about not having pro experience but yet he has a far more advance pro style than most before even stepping into the pro ranks(he shouldn't be bashed for this but praised).Heard same story with another 2x Olympic champ rigo who has a amateur style & more questionable chin."He's all hype" "he has weak/no chin" yet again he's already won a world title in his 9th bout fighting a p4p fighter in 11th fight & ppl still counting him out.Nobody is saying Vasyl would utterly destroy either guy just that he could compete with the best hold his own and then some.Another thing ppl are criticizing him now for is WSB which he's only doing one season of,They wanted him to prove his chin & fight without head gear. He's fighting pretty solid competition but now the guys he fought are suddenly not good enough for him because they're not pro :huh which one is it damn it??...........
