No he's not overhyped: 1. He's one of the greatest amateurs of all time. 2. Add that to the fact that his style is very suitable for pro-fighting. You have great amateurs like Abner Mares, Amir Khan doing well in boxing - but Lomachenko's style is very suitable for pros, and Lomachenko was a better amateur than them. 3. His skill level and talent level is insane.
That's a massive call. Lomachenko was far more dominant as an amateur, winning two golds with a pro style. Lomachenko undoubtedly has more experience, power and skill than Pernell did stepping into his first pro bout.
Roy Jones had something like 80 fights with 5 losses. He should've won that gold but he wasn't dominant throughout his am career, he was always beatable. Lomachenko's am record is allegedly 396-1 with two golds and two world champs at different weight divisions so there would be something wrong if there wasn't higher expectations for him. We have to wait and see what happens but I suspect that Lomachenko is destined for ATG status. There's nothing missing from his boxing game skill wise, the only thing that's an unknown is his chin because he doesn't get touched which considering his come forward, aggressive body punching style is phenomenal, and something I've never seen before in any level of boxing. Some might say stamina over twelve rounds as well, but that can always be developed and Lomachenko sr. knows what he's doing.
The boxing world craves so much for new stars to revive the sport that anyone with a glimpse of talent will always be over hyped.

Considering his pedigree he is underhyped. In 2011-12 many American boxing pundits thought Henry Ramirez would be better.
