Exactly. It was a well-constructed thread topic that should have been beyond this level of trolling.

    This is still ESB, though.

What can I say? LACMEXAME does it again.

Great breakdown and as always much respect...this is the problem with your idea (IMHO). Floyd isn't going to chase "excessively", he'll chase and even get caught out on his front foot reaching, but how many times? You think a fighter like Floyd isn't going to realize what's happening after a round or so...or course he will, then he'll adjust. JMM, as great a fighter as he is, was made to look like a novice, I don't mean that in a disparaging way, its just the realilty. No matter what JMM had elected to do, he wasn't going to win that fight. He was in against a guy who was simply better than him.

Very awesome stuff B. If Marquez was just a little faster he'd have a real shot. The intangibles were never there sadly, at any weight.

Agreed, good points. I don't think JMM would have success only countering, but you know as well as I do he's not Corrales in the counter-punching department. He had most success leading when he feinted Floyd to the ropes and used his jab to set things up (underused).

Thanks for reading. That's why I didn't suggest only countering, Floyd would catch on, JMM would have to be dynamic. And to be honest, the first 4 or 5 rounds were Floyd's mainly because of his jabs to the head and body. If JMM followed back more often from them, the first half would look different, with the second half not looking as punishing for Floyd. I'm not a fan of excuses and this thread was about tactics, not complaining, but I will not pretend Marquez's head and foot movement were the same as they always were that night.

BUT like I said in Part 1, won't argue with anyone who thinks Floyd beats him at any point in time. Perfectly reasonable to think so.

Thanks man. Definitely hard to see it at any weight, I agree, so many challenges for JMM. But less hard to see at other points in time IMO.

Where the hell do you get the time to do this?!

I agree with your core point. Marquez had the rhythm and intelligence to feint Mayweather into throwing his counter (thus Mayweather becomes the lead.) then Marquez had the opportunity to do what he himself does best.

His S&C training for that fight was ridiculous, it changed him bio rhythms and Muscular structure. For a man who had always displayed remarkable lateral movement he was so stiff up top. Almost like his body had forgotten the motion of bending slipping and sliding.

I do think that for the sake of argument, we need to acknowledge that Mayweather that night was in peak physical form as a WW. Retaining his speed, yet having added the muscle which he used succesfully against Mosley and others. The year or two that he sat out after Hatton would of been his best at 147 IMO.

Another point you pick up on is the feet of Marquez. He'd lost that Latin bounce and had resorted to a much heavier two step assault. Easy to read and very vulnerable to pivots. Mayweather lands multiple hooks and manages to pivot away, even growing in confidence to the point where he can follow the hook with a hard right hand. It really should of been Marquez who could use the pivot. As discussed, feint his own shot to draw Mayweather into throwing, and then use his feet to change the angle as he throws his own shot.

Marquez is fantastic at changing the trajectory of a punch whilst in the process of throwing it. (Watched the Katsidis fight earlier) so he seems a perfect candidate to reset the angle but have the punch already in motion.

    Brilliant thread.

    :happy

Glad you popped in man. Floyd really was at his physical peak there. If it wasn't at 140, it was probably then. Strong but mobile, quick but with plenty of pop in his punches.

Be sure to pop in and comment on Parts 1, 2, 3, and 4!

I have the time because this was my spring break and I actually had to get a mini heart surgery I wasn't planning on. Everything's fine now but I was in the hospital for days, so this is what I was up to. Now cheer me up and post in them dammit.

    Glad you're alright :good

Guess you'll have to stop Boxing and use that Law degree to open a gym, and pay the trainers there a 45k a year salary... :yep

You essentially come into this thread to cheer lead for bogo because of the small complexities he brought up yet offer little yourself in the technical department. instead, you try to impress us by primitively making a long winded list of attributes the way a rookie would.

    just shut the **** up

Rewatched the early rounds of this fight the other day.

Floyd did much more leading than I thought and would pivot like a mofo off the potshots to offset countering opps for Marquez

What's funny is that my comment applies to EVERY boxing match-up. It wasn't really directed towards Floyd but to his groupies. And since this thread was a perfect example, I decided to use Floyd and Marquez to state my point. A point in which I've brought up many times. Did I think I'd get this reaction? Not really, but this just showed me how many sensitive ****s like yourself roam around this forum. I come to this forum and have to read endless threads of bull**** whining and crying about FLoyd (in which you are a constant participant), and not once have I directed a negative comment towards you. I guess my comment got to you and the rest of the hyenas that comprise your pathetic group. Just do me a favor and **** off bro! I guess I can add you to the list of obsessive May fans since you just came out the closest with your comment.

No disrespect towards Bogotazo. He knows what I think of him.

Great thread(s) nice to see genuine technical breakdown every now and then.
