Hearn's gonna continue to pick up the majority of the GB ams when they turn pro, people like selby, fowler and joshua are highly likely to sign with him with golden boy perhaps picking up a few.
The difference is Matchroom fighters have to deliver for Sky and win world titles as there are so many belts around now. Bellew wont win a world title, nor will Barker. I doubt Brook will beat Alexander and even if Froch beats Kessler he will never beat Ward, plus he cannot have too long left. Fair enough he has Frampton and Selby, but they still have to win world titles and both are in tough divisions. Burns will lose to Broner sooner or later so I think Hearn maybe going into a potentially tough period. If ****** does have a dry spell, as he is at the moment they can invest in overseas fights for his channel like they are currently doing (Bradley, Rios, probably Donaire and Mayweather etc) to ensure the subscribers stay. That said I think Eddie Hearn is doing a great job at Sky and lets hope at the end of his 2 year contract Barney Francis or whoever is in charge of Sky at the time will invest in him again.
Shame we don't know more about fighter's purses so can compare the promoters together. Also for value of each fighter like comparing Gavin with say Burns etc.
Its hard to say because Hearn is in ascendancy. He is literally snapping up all the established names in the pros and amateurs. He has Sky backing which if withdrawn leaves him ****ed but with Matchroom offering them Snooker, Darts, Fishing, Prizefighter etc then its a mutually beneficial arrangement where either party won't bolt at the sign of a little trouble.
I'm not sure Rob, I think Allegedly made Bellew vs Cleverly in the hope that Clev would destroy him in front of his own fans. That way, he could put his arm around him and say ''told you so, son'' and then send him back to domestic level for a bit until it was his turn. As it was, Bellew arguably won.... and was then completely sidelined. He's more than entitled to have a grievance. Allegedly didn't have to make an immediate rematch, he could have sent them in opposite directions but still on an upward curve. Instead Bellew was parked up (with MANY others), and Clev fought a complete and utter steaming turd in Karpency. Why? They can't even use money as an argument, Bellew would have probably fought Cleverly for what Karpency might have got, it'd have sold WAY more tickets = more profit for all concerned. You are spot on though that the difference between Allegedly and Fast Eddie is the building up and maintainance of relationships between the various parties.
Good post Jack but I disagree with the last bit, imo boxnation would work better just showing the oversea fights, if Frank gets the BT deal then it SHOULD? give him more money to potentially put on better shows, he wont because he outdated and greedy but the money would be there. Keep boxnation going as a channel for proper boxing fans, the fans that dont care if the fighters are English, Mongolian or from the ****ing moon, it would be cheaper and providing Frank go's behind the scenes and has **** all to do with it, they won't lose subscribers if anything they will probably gain some.
Frank needs to consider signing an agreement with BBC, ITV, BT etc for huge exposure. Rather than go through the bull**** of **** match ups etc Once every three months put on a good card but only main event on a channel with huge exposure. Foreign cards alone will keep the hardcores, especially with some domestic cards too. But the big stars need the exposure. For example, in September put on a huge card, topped with Cleverly vs Hopkins which is on a bigger channel for exposure.
1. ITV/BBC don't want to work with Frank. They either don't like him, don't like boxing, or its to expensive. 2. Frank only promoted 1 show every 3 months already. 3. The hardcore fan base is not enough to keep BoxNation in business even if they pull out of domestic cards.
Wouldn't be surprised if W*rren let his stable slide and focused on becoming 'TV Boxing Mogul F*ank' for shows here and abroad. I mean Hennesy is presently in complete limbo over how the Fury-Cunningham fight is gonna get shown after the CH5 pull out so F*ank could start coming to the rescue of promoters who can't get a look in at Sky and elsewhere. F*ank stated recently that he wasn't dependent on his own fighters and with the younger Hearn looking like he's in it for the long haul will W*rren really want to bother competing promotionally? Was interesting listening to Barry Hearn not so long ago saying that he's now a fat old grey fella and although he's been involved in various sports, most of the grey hairs came from doing boxing promotions. Are they roughly the same age Hearn Sr and W*rren?
