Every punch was a power punch. There was no pawing, range finding punch. Heck, he rarely threw any jabs. He didn't know how to throw a punch stepping back. He never covered up either. Always moving forward looking to throw the bomb. I like how he leans or dips to the side after every combo. 1-2-3-4-dip. 1-2-3-lean.

 

He's always "set" and balanced to throw a punch with either hand.

Basically, he's almost always in a position to punch.

He never seems to back up.

He's a forward moving punching machine.

 

Hit you anywhere as hard as he can and doesn't care where as long as he hits something?

 

I remember my dad telling me when I was a kid that "Rocky" could hit a guy anywhere -- arms shoulders et. -- and it would do damage.

 

Now that I'm all caffeinated, here goes.

First, I'm enormously impressed with all the knowledge of Rocky, including the intangibles. One or two posters nibbled at the edge of what I was looking for that made Rock extra special, not just a relentless slugger with an iron will.

You can see it clearly in his bout with Archie Moore, a pin-point, knockout punching ATG. He tagged Rocky flush on the whiskers with shots that would have felled a Rhino. One dropped him.

When he rose, unlike other resolute brawlers who would charge in swinging, as if to say, while clearing the cobwebs (buying time) "That the bestya got? I ain't hurt!", but with only a semblance of the mustard they had at the opening bell. Which is only normal, eating flush shots from Archie Moore.

Rocky was specially dangerous, because he hit just as hard the instant he got off the deck, which is damn rare. Usually a guy would be ripe for the kill. But guys had to think twice before jumping on him. Buzzed or not, he had KO in either glove every second.

Hope it was clear, 'n worth it. Re-view the Moore fight with that in mind.
