True Chavez proved that but Martinez speed would be a key factor early on and Golovkin from what ive seen would be too slow and wouldnt be effective until the mid to late rounds
The only thing Chavez, proved is that he can take a brutal shot. He's got an iron chin but he got outclassed for 11 rounds.
I would have said Martinez 2 years ago, but Martinez looks a little diminished and I think might lose.
I can't use the Chavez Jr. fight as any measuring stick due to Julio's absolute inability to truly cut the ring off on Martinez or mount an effective offense at all, until the 11th and 12th rounds. And Julio, not known as a jabber, barely threw one the whole fight. Barker and Macklin had success against a fresh and fast Martinez in the beginning of their fights and neither are speedsters.
Pirog is not back from the back injury (if ever), no way is he getting in with GGG without a tuneup at least. Macklin has passed several times, maybe with legit reasons, but he's being pressured into taking the june date and doesn't seem too interested. Rubio also passed on the january date, was lined up for Quillin, but now seems to Martinez' mando
Im talking about footspeed as opposed to handspeed, might just be me but Golovkin doesnt seem all that light on his feet
He's not, but he's purposeful and is always in good position. I've never seen an opponent of his be able to get away from him without literally running. That's effectively cutting off the ring. It doesn't matter how fast your feet are when you almost always put them in position to be balanced in defense or offense.
Chicken Chavez is a d level fighter that throws a c- lefthook and Sergio struggled with that bum in his last fight after he panic fueled threw 100 arm punches a round just to keep that harmless fool in his shell. GGG destroys him
Golovkin TKO Martinez isn't gonna fight him though. It'll be Chavez II in September and then another soft european/british level guy in his next and last fight, maybe Geale if we get REALLY lucky.
GGG destroys him, it almost seems obvious. Sergio of 5 years ago is a whole different animal. Martinez is what, 39? He doesn't have the same movement, speed, or even power. GGG is MUCH better technically, and Sergio's unorthodox style would be his undoing around round 6. Sergio has fought relatively soft competition his last fights. A few brit nobodies and then almost getting stopped by Jr...he is there for the taking. Fight will NEVER happen.
Depends how Martinez looks in his next match, he is 38 but if he's recuperated well since his last injuries he could still stop Golovkin.
it can go either way, thats why the fights is so interresting. but if i have to say one name, than i say the man who moves better, whos reflexes is better and that is martinez. powerwise they both equal. ggg seems a big slow by times and i see martinez taking advantage of that.
