Fixed. If I was a rich man I would've thrown the remote through the tv last night. I've heard some shite on boxnation but last night was something else entirely. People may think I'm being too emotional but when a guy is landing clean counters and the commentators don't utter a ****ing word, and in the end speak as if Bellew was robbed? I hope they get raped by a horse. No problem at all with the decision. It was a close fight, but the commentary was worse than horrendous. To think people give HBO and showtime **** on here atsch I'll take the Americans all day long.
The HBO crew has had some howlers in the last few years, but it's not as relentlessly painful as Sky is. And at least Kellerman does his research on who's fighting!
Yeah I feel Kellerman gets unnecessary stick at times. The worst I've seen of HBO is the Jirov/Toney fight. It's like Lampley couldn't see the fact that so many of Jirovs punches were missing or hitting Toneys arms, and he was also blind to the many hard, clean counters Toney was landing with ease in the later rounds. Not a word from him, and I was thinking "are you blind?". It's a shame when you have genius at work like that, and it gets no acknowledgment.
Have to admit that's true. Pac is my favourite fighter but I remember Clottey having a fair bit of success early on that wasn't acknowledged by the HBO commentators. I think I gave Clottey 3 or 4 rounds in that fight.
Even with HBO (and mainly Lampley's) off nights, where they blatantly favour the HBO fighter, they're miles better than Sky. Some Brit posters, for some reason, have this idea of 'biased Yanks' who don't know what they're on about but give me them over any of our lot. Another thing is, when you have a good fight on HBO you can tell the commentators are excited, they get it across to the viewer just how good a fight it is. Sky's commentary too often just sounds dull. They don't know how to commentate properly on a war, they don't generate any excitement. Honestly, they can make a good fight sound ****.
I like Watt, he might talk **** a lot of he IMO but he's hit and miss. Halling is so awful it's beyond belief he actually is employed, he knows nothing about boxing, absolutely nothing.
A disgrace is a bit harsh. At least they nail their colours to the mast and offer an OPINION unlike some commentators. They were hardly outrageous in believing Bellew won, it was a close fight and one of the 3 judges agreed with their verdict as well.
Halling's commentary was nauseating. His job is to give a non biased opinion on what's taking place. He had Bellew winning by a mile and never indicated it was a close fight. It was non stop, biased nonsense, from start to finish. Did they ever acknowledge anything thrown by Chilemba?
Watch Martinez - Williams II before you praise HBO. I remember Jim Watt scoring Chris John - Rocky Juarez to Juarez until he saw that HBO had John in front so Watt started giving every round to John to even it up including the 12th where John spent 90% of it on the verge of being knocked out. He is an utter joke.
I'd just like to see a more varied cast. I think Jamie Moore's a good addition when he's on (and he was excellent when talking on camera last night). Get some younger faces, some new ideas in there. Swapping between Conteh and a few others would be good.
Spot on there. But Sky's doesn't follow the flow of a fight and instead places its own interpreation on it. And when the expert ex-pro 'brain' in the box is Watt that can be a f*ckin disaster! For instance, Crolla-Matthews last night was starting to go down that road as Watt was initially ignoring Crolla's work when he was having good spells and saying it was difficult to score. In fairness to Halling he then continually stated that he thought Crolla was having the better of these phases when Crolla was having some success. Not that Crolla was pulling up trees but I'm sure Halling was embarrassed enough to redress what was coming out of Watt's mouth which wasn't describing what was happening. Watt was then more even handed in the 2nd half of the fight although the way Matthews faded even he didn't have much choice. Watt can put in some very good commentaries but then when one of his favourites is fighting and he sticks with them it's f*ckin embarrasing.
the funny thing is, why are you guys surprised? they are always like this. Still remember rawling complimenting brook's strength and conditioning coach after he ko'd hector ****ing saldivia!!! Kell could have turned up pissed and still knocked him out.
