Kelly Pavlik was wayyyy better than GGG

aa had a confirmed chin(taylor,dirrell,froch,ward,miranda) and a confirmed heart(fighting through a broken jaw).

we dont know either of these as of yet with ggg because he has not had the opportuninty to confirm it.

 

True, Abraham has proven chin & heart...both proven to be very good, up to a finite point. Neither is up there on some immortal pedestal.

Chin - yeah, well over average, rock-solid for the most part...but he did get rocked hard by non-puncher Stieglitz. Dirrell actually stung him a few times as well. Froch is a big puncher but never really got to lay his power on Abraham since a) he opted to out-box him from range and b) Abraham stayed in his shell.

Heart - yeah, he fought through a broken jaw...because his team made him. He initially asked to quit but was talked into continuing. He also clearly didn't want any more in the Stieglitz rematch, no matter whose decision it was to desist. He also looked very relieved when Stjepan Bozic injured himself and had to forfeit. Bozic was out-punching Abraham to the body and making him look bad. Most boxers when they are handed victory on a flukey injury are upset to have to earn it that way instead of legitimately. Abraham practically heaved a sigh like he got bailed out.



Golovkin could well have better or worse of either attribute - you're correct, we don't quite know yet.

We do know, however, that his power is at least on the same tier as Abraham's. Unlike Abraham, that power isn't all Golovkin has going for him. Like Abraham, he isn't particularly fast but his timing is much better. So is his work rate. So is the versatility of his skill set.

any version of aa at 168 is not prime, because he was a different fighter at 160 as he could impose his will whereas he cannot at 168. people forget that aa was so revered at one point that he actually opened as a favorite in the super six...without ever even having fought at the weight.

im just sayign that all these newbies here that go gaga over a guy with power against limited competition have not follwed the sport for very long. for every single mike tyson there are numerous examples of david lemeiux's.

to me, the most important factor of the legitimacy of ggg is not only his stellar amatuer career but the fact that many titleholders do not want to fight him(sturm,quillan).

 

Not really sure about Pavlik's personal life or history but didn't he start on heavy alcohol after his first loss? Golovkin hasn't experienced that to be judged over Pavlik psychologically.

C'mon now, you are making it sound as if GGG is some kind of Jeff Lacy or Samuel Peter. Looks crude and unshakeable and knocks everyone out. Sure, time will tell and GGG's resume is not very thick yet. But a true boxing fan knows a good thing when he sees it.

To me Golovkin is Tszyu 2.0. Same murderous punch and stalking. Also short for his weight. They even both have some Korean blood in them! But Golovkin is not as stocky as Tszyu was, he is lighter on his feet, with better workrate. He also thinks every second of the fight and never throws a wild punch.

Lemieux was a spoiled kid compared to Golovkin. Got everything handed to him, fell in love with his own power knocking opponents down and out one after another. Had his home crowd behind him every time he fought. Didn't know what to do when he had a seasoned vet in front of him who stayed in the fight. I wonder what would have happened if Lemieux faced the Ouma Golovkin faced? And who hands things on a plate to a guy from Kazakhstan in the US?

Hopefully Geale, Martinez, Quillin and Chavez won't be able to run forever. I would hate for Golovkin to move up to 168 before he cleans up middleweight.

 

I do not agree at all from what i have seen, and i can see Golovkin getting better and better with every fight
Unfortunately because of **** promoters we will never see the best fights made for Golovkin and this is why boxing will never will be popular sport

GGG? NO!

 

Dirrell won by like a point, 17-16 or so. It was in Mississippi at a U.S./Kazakhstan duel meet. Dirrell got some home cooking from the judges.

 

Pavlik vs. GGG would have been great. I would favor Kelly.
