How did it happen. Tony was a God on this forum, he could do no wrong. I remember getting slated for saying his win over Atoli Moore for the Commonwealth was not impressive due to Moore being a 4-1 Afrobum. Talking about Wars and smashing people and then being negative, moaning about decisions, being aggresive at weigh ins and during the fight. None lf this is new to Tony so why all the hate now when he was loved for his "passion" before?
I've been pretty consistent, like you I never bought. The hard man attitude. His who's next comment after Moore were ridiculous. He talks a great talk, clearly his Euro level, but lost to Cleverly, could not stand his sore loser attitude then and we get a repeat last night. Also he is an ingrate.
He has always been that way though. First time he was on sky he ran to the camera after beating a latvian screaming "Im te best light heavyweight in the county already". On the same bill Cleverly won the European title.
Tony Bellew is my fav fighter in uk ...not only that he's a genuine nice guy hate him now ...envy him more later ...he'll be champion of the world soon
I think people are being a little bit unfair on him in some aspects but yes, he came across bad last night. Of course I'll defend him because I'm a big fan of his as you'll all know but I'm not one of these fanboys who'll slate anyone who doesn't shower with him with praise for everything he says or does like some people on this forum do about other fighters. The thing is he let's his emotions often overwhelm him. Some people are just like that in general, they struggle to keep a lid on things. To be honest, if you're going to go far boxing then you either have to learn to keep a cool head and be an ice-cool tactician or be blessed with unbelievable talent which means you can be as hot or cool as you like. Floyd Mayweather is a hot head, it's just that he's so good it doesn't affect his performances. Mike Tyson was the same (for a while). I've met Tony and he's a lovely fella. He just has to keep his head in the heat of battle more. The nutting Chilemba after the bell was snidey and made him look very bad. I still like him and so will lots of others because to many he just has that "one of the lads" appeal, sort of like Ricky Hatton. Not many people like an over-aggressive nob though and that's what he often comes across as causing people to say they don't like him like some on here are saying. Hopefully Tony reins in a bit more. I hope he does because I know he's a good bloke, he just has to show it more. To be fair though if you look on Twitter today he's apologised and admitted his performance wasn't very good. Last night I think we just in denial cause he was so guttered.
So basically this thread is just you saying I told you so and you were all wrong? Not that you've held onto that slight ever since waiting for the moment you could bring it up again. Not only is it Easter but this comes round too, could today get any better for you?
He has just been a ***** all week tbh, but last night topped it off very disrespectful/being a ***** and constantly disappointing in fights
I like bellew, he's just an emotional guy that's all. I do wonder if it actually detracts from his abilities now though. He doesn't think enough. Against an awkward guy like last night he needed to be calm and thoughtful but he got too revved up and wild.
Meh one night isn't going to flip my opinion on him completely. **** performance, made a bit of a twat out of himself but I'm still a fan.
He's no villain, he just came up against a better fighter last night and got a decision he didn't deserve, not his fault and I don't hold it against him. Tony seems a decent guy, he comes across well in his posts on here, I wish him all the best and hope he can fulfill his dream to become world champion. The only issue I have is the 'I'm willing to die in the ring', 'I'm going to smash him to pieces' nonsense, it's unnecessary and doesn't impress anyone.
