Ferdie Pacheco

Watching a basketball game tonight and the announcer referred to "the late Ferdie Pacheco". I double checked, but Ferdie is still alive.

Any thoughts on Ferdie? atsch

 

I thought he may have passed as well.I heard he had advanced Ahlzheimers and was hospitalised
Perhaps I am wrong then.:huh

 

I like the guy, but he is too biased on Ali tbh....

I like Ferdie as well. He is biased towards Ali but I cant blame him. If I spent that many years with Ali I would be biased too. I didn't like the way he spoke about Joe Frazier in that documentary a few years back about Manila. He always was respectful of Joe in previous shows.

I do respect the fact that he walked away after informing Ali, his wife and his manager that Ali`s health was diminishing. He couldve stayed along till the end like many others did. I think he left the camp in `76. There was still some $ in it for him but he had some integrity. Bottom line he cared about Muhammad Ali.

I thought he was a colorful analyst on Showtime and I will always remember when he called a knockout in Nelson/Fenech 2. Right before it happened.

 

I always liked it when a fighter called him Freddie in an interview.

 

He always had the air of a lackey. Didn't like him.

 

I did not like the guy at all mainly for his fight calls and for what he said about Joe

 

lol. I think Larry Holmes was a paerticular offender.

So bad he almost ruined one of my favorite fights the Chacon-Edwards rematch.

 

I recall Ferdie mixing up Riddick Bowe and Razor Ruddock one time and what came out of his mouth was Ruddock Buttock.

 

I'd like to think he wasn't as big a **** as he appeared to be in the "Thriller in Manila" documentary of a few years ago. He said some bad things about Frazier, but I think he was already on his way out mentally.

 

One of the very worst commentators.
