Was Kalambay's performance against McCallum the best boxing performance ever?

Money Mayweather vs castillo rematch and Shane Mosley for me.

There was a good thread a while back on technical boxing masterclasses that had a lot of good suggestions in it for this sort of stuff.

Does nobody think Tiger deserved to keep his title against Griffith anymore? That one was plenty controversial in it's day.

Money Mayweather vs castillo rematch and Shane Mosley for me.I didn't think it would be possible to work the philly shoulder roll on someone as fast and athletic as Sugar Shane.

Lest we forget Money vs. Marquez. Another all time boxing display whilst overcoming a stylistic hurdle in an undersized counterpuncher.

Yup, I had Tiger ahead. Griffith clearly won the rematch, but he did so in a very risk averse Mayweather-Castillo II fashion which was distasteful.

    Frank is gold.

I'm sure the rest of your head would realise you're talking shite. There's nothing in that fight and, for me, Tiger won anyway. Hardly the one-sided drubbing of Sumbu-Mike I.

It's still controversial. Is it now being passed off as some display of all-time great boxing around these parts now? :huh. It simply isn't a satisfying decision in my opinion- whichever way you voted- I voted Tiger but i don't think either fighter looks that impressive.

I can imagine the comments "i gave that round to Emile on ring generalship" (translation: Tiger didn't do much to win that round, but, as usual, although Emile didn't really impress much, I don't want to give another even round). :yep

It's seemed like whenever it's been brought up recently that i've noticed, it's been very pro-griffith or just sort of taken for granted he won comfortably.Maybe just me, but it seemed more fiercely debated years ago.

Let me guess, one person scored for Emile, probably someone with a good reputation; a few others (noobs) then take this as gospel and decide that Emile won handily. Welcome to the Classic Forum. :yep

That's a more boring way of putting the question, though. Try more along the lines "have anyone produced a boxing performance with the ring generalship and variety and quality of defense and offense that Kalambay did against an opponent of McCallum's skill and experience?".

A bit longer question, but makes for a more interesting answer.

Definitely up there with the best, a sublime performance against a great boxer. There's obviously many great wins, displays of skill and masterclasses in history.

I'd rank it over pretty much most of the wins sweet_scientist and Littlered listed,in terms the ability and skill of the opponent and the performance shown. Although Whitaker-Chavez and Leonard-Benitez are up there, maybe Leonard-Duran 2 and RJJ-Toney. Jones and Leonard's wins are based on athleticism as much as skill. Douglas-Tyson is a masterful neutralisation of Tyson though and while not quite as good Marquez-Pacquaio 3 is pretty brilliant.

There was a fair bit of athleticism on show in Kalambay-McCallum as well I'd say.

Yes, but a much more complete tactical and technical perfomance than either Jones or Leonard put up. Especially compated to Jones'.
