Derrys a warrior but is coming to the end of his career imo, he hasnt been at his best for about 5 years, and his skin is ****ed now he cuts so easily. His hands were properly messed up as well. Fairplay to him hes a credit to the sport but I honestly think he should retire soon.

Can someone just tell me where this extra money is going to come from? If you draw, you can make those sorts of demands. If you don't, then you really can't.

Both guys are the definition of domestic fighters. Entertaining but at the level of their abilities. They're not getting title shots, they're not becoming the sort of journeymen who can provide name value to a prospect, there's no value to a promoter shelling out now against future earnings.

£50k each would be ridiculous for the level both fight at and their recent records.

all fair points but even still your trainers and managers percentage eat into that.

For example when all these papers go on about million pound pay days half of it is exaggerated.Look at witherspoons purse v bruno ended up with 63 thousand dollars after expenses and then look at mcclelans net take against benn.Granted these two were maybe promoted by a certain promoter but as in all forms off life net and gross are completely different things.

Typically yes, but due to their popularity maybe not. I mean if they were the main event on a card and drew an attendance of ~6,000 and it was on Sky aswell, then you could see where that sort of money could come from, and given the events of the last 2 fights and the crowd they seemed to draw at the weekend that'snot impossible.

But yes, normally guys of their level wouldn't be looking anywhere even close to that kind of money.

But why would Sky put up serious money for that fight on its own? Is there any evidence that they draw a big TV audience?

Neither fighter is signed to Matchroom. No reason why this couldn't find itself on the Haye undercard in June.

But why would that generate Derry and Crolla more money if they don't generate any of the buys?

I very much doubt they got £15k where do people get their figures from try £6-£9k... And £50k for a Commenwealth Title that would be a sure way for Matchroom to go out of business.. Crolla and Mathews would have been lucky to clear a couple of grand after they have paid their manager/trainer/cornermen/training camp and nutrition.. Maybe Derry will come on and give a ballpark figure but I reckon for a vacant title on the undercard it would be max £7k plus a ticket deal.. It was a good fight and a war but fights are at levels and these two lads are British level fighter and at this minute in time the money they are getting is the going rate. No matter how good the fight was it doesn't change their levels.

I would like to see the re match and if this was to headline a show maybe they could get a few grand more each but is it worth it for either of them No!!!

Being promised an average amount and getting an average amount is still better than being promised a large amount and getting paid **** all.

im sure this fight would sell tickets and get viewers - its got some name recognition now to casual fans for two previous good fights.

im sure if you asked sky they would rather put this on instead of darren barker vs some argie.

it wont sell out the men or the echo ( maybe if it was card with all of liverpool on it again it mite) but would sell bowlers or aintree somewhere like that no problem. they sold a 1000 for wknd personally it was said in interview.

they mite not get the money they want but where else are they going to get some sort of payday anyway. if they can get more money elsewhere do it if they cant they should make this fight.

its not bad business for either of them to say they want more money to do it again anyway

I understand what your all saying regarding it being a Commonwealth title fight and these lads not being world class ect but where I'm coming from is the fact that when these two step in a ring against each other we know exactly what we're gonna get.

Boxing is as much about entertainment as it is about anything else so if their first two fights are anything to go by a third will be entertainment guaranteed, how many fights out there can be made that absolutely guarantee excitment ?

There's no reason another fight between these two shouldn't be on Sky and sell around 5'000 tickets after all isn't this the fight we most want to see after Saturday night ? I don't hear to many people clamoring for Bellew/Chilemba 2 or any other fight involving Bellew for that matter who probably came away with close to 50k himself for that dire performance.

Matthews/Crolla deserve atleast 50k for the **** they'll undoubtable put themselves through and i see no reason why they couldn't or wouldn't get it.

I have watched the fight twice and in honesty don't think it was as good as the first one.. It was quite cagey and to be fair a lot of cancelling each other out at times.. People like to see Knock outs from what I hear Sky are struggling to get viewers to watch the boxing.. I've only watched this fight from the card tried watching the Bellew fight but would rather stuck needles in my eyes.. I agree they deserve a bit more it was a decent domestic scrap of a good level but on Sky with just over 100,000 viewers can't see there being much of an increase.. I think Mathews should fight Gethin he will get a few quid for that one and should win.. As for Crolla if he is going to Super Featherweight I think someone like Ben Jones would be a good fight although I think he will get beat

Except that neither draws big crowds or tv audiences. That's a pretty big reason, I'd say!

Excitement isn't the primary criterion for getting good money - it's being exciting and getting people to watch.

yeah you're probably right. Its a shame really, we can't say they don't deserve a handsome payday if they were to beat the **** out of each other again.
