Yeh I think it doesn't work, but not down to 'bad shows'. More to do with cost and risk.

Sour grapes from Hobson,i don`t understand why he hasn`t talked to Boxnation yet and also the date as wrong for Matchroom/Sky and his argument loses a little bit of credailty as Mcdonnels eliminator was on Sky.

they are always clashing dates between promotions always seems stupid to me when they are desperate for viewing figures and ticket sales

Hobson is right though, you can only have a sole supplier if they have all the boxers. Matchroon don't and their marquee fighters will mostly fail at world level, sky wont put up with that. Matchrooms last 2 shows have been poor too, saturdays headline was boring. Also having Froch on box office is a joke, if he wins are we going to have to pay to watch him lose to Ward again? A match that was on regular sky just over a year ago. Hearn needs to start delivering proper matches people want to see like Quigg v Frampton. He knows this too so will start using all promoters in the coming months to make these fights happen I would imagine.

I'd be interested to hear your thesis as to why boxing doesnt work on terrestial TV but is ok for a sports subscription channel.

    1. There is no guarantee the event will take place as advertised.
    2. There is no guarantee the event will last the allotted time.
    3. Cost per viewer isn't great.
    4. Boxing isn't in a strong advertising demographic.
    5. For a fight to become a "BIG EVENT" these days you need to have a story/build up.

None of this is particularly revolutionary.

  9. Surely that is serious news at sky that boxing underachieved.after looking at figures previous also Maloney was producing better than expected, thing is with loaded it's still early with casual sports fan unaware maybe the channel exists that ain't boxings fault
We know sky will deliver and eddie will continue after contract bit will loaded, can't imagine there paying much to little Frank
I'm enjoying there coverage it's basic but it's boxing and we have had British, commonwealth and English title fights

This year you haven't had those fights on BoxNation.

You are missing that theres allot of Maloney & Hatton shows thats didn't make the list was there rating was so low.

  11. Yeah fair point, matchroom deliver more consistently.
We are at an all time high for boxing on tv,it's doesn't mean it's all good as eurosport prove but I am one of many who lap it all up
I would like contracts of some form for ******,Hearn,hatton,Maloney/wood/Hobson/Gil our,Mick hennessey, coldwell and fearon but that's a lot to ask
Also one of loaded plus points is lack of Richie woodhall for time being

    You don't like Richie Woodhall?

Why would you give them contracts?

I said for years that sky need to be buying shows on their merits. Let a promoter make a proposal. This would encourage promoters to make the best possible shows it also encourages fighters to take the hard fights as they will be rewarded with TV for it.

It's clear to me for a big show like his Hobson should be able to pitch it to Sky. The same should be the case with Coldwell, Hatton, Maloney etc. Why should try be frozen out because sky only want to deal with matchroom.

If Maloney comes to sky and says for the price you pay Hearn for a show ill put on Proce Fury why would sky turn that down for a barker rotolo card. Seems silly to me

Same with Hobson in this situation he has put on a noteworthy fight why shouldn't he be able to pitch it to sky just because sky only deal with Hearn. That should be irrelevant if as they claim they are only interested in quality fights why would they forego good fights in favour of fights with their exclusive promoter?

  14. I like richie woodhall but he has been on bbc radio, sky, boxnation, eurosport all the olympics etc.
Maybe i wouldnt give them contracts, maybe the best way of producing the goods is having set dates, venues and budget from the specific channel and the promoters battling it out to come up with the best fights and shows
What i meant by that was we wouldnt miss any fighters we want to see as im pretty sure any one any good is tied up between that group
As for terrestrial do you think tyson furys rant at david price hurt hennesseys chances at channel 5 or am i thinking into it too much

I think the way Sky would respond is that they have that setup already. Hearn has put Hobson, Coldwell, Woods, Hatton fights on Sky?
