More fool them for picking a robotic, defensively slack, suspect chinned fighter over a slick banger with virtually every advantage going for him.
One thing you can't accuse Enzo of back then of is being robotic. He was pretty decent offensively and worked the body and head really well under Enzo C. The only thing was Enzo C didn't exactly cover defense. Joe C was lucky on quite few occasions that he could take a damn good dig and could adapt on his own accord in fights. Others in the stable weren't so gifted and paid for Enzo C's complete emphasis on getting ryhthm into their punches rather than any defensive work. And Haye also carried a dodgy rep with regard to his whiskers and in his previous fight had hit the deck a few times on his way to victory against Mormeck. So Enzo-Haye was billed as being about the man who lands first
Haye was only down once against Mormeck, and he did recover well and won in some style. I do agree Enzo did hit hard enough to trouble Haye, but I also feel that if he had clocked Haye first, he wouldn't have necessarily won.
Last time it was seen as printing money, IJL did me a favor :yep. I think it's a good fight, Enzo seemed okay last time out and deserves his chance to show himself in this one.
He should probably not be fighting again despite the bad stoppage last time. I like enzo but his best days are well behind him. It is a fight he can win though as long as he don't try trading and uses his boxing instead.
Ah right Haye was only down once against Mormeck. I must be confusing it with another fight in old age! I do remember Haye looking in trouble but as you say he came back and won well. I just remember the build up to Haye-Enzo being based around don't blink cos both guys have chin frailties and like to attack so its gonna be exciting etc etc. But Haye always looked the more solid at the weight - you couldn't imagine him coming down to light heavy. He just hit harder and had a better chin in any case. But you could see who was gonna win just from the walk-ons on the night. Enzo looked a bag of nerves and Haye just strutted out!
Enzo Maccarinelli v Ovill McKenzie rematch delayed by injury http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/wales/22051724
I suppose the one thing in his favour is that his chin is so bad that he's not going to get badly hurt, with potential long term damage.... the slightest clean shot has him all over the shop. I'm pretty certain he won't end up like Danny Williams, struggling to stand up straight, or Meldrick Taylor, barely capable of stringing two words together. Williams took pretty bad beatings against both Tyson and Klitschko... realistically the game was up for him after that, despite some OK-ish showings after that. Nearly losing by KO to McDermott should be sent him head first into retirement, the bloke is in a good position financially, ought to enjoy it whilst he can.
Enzo isn't that made financially, despite living a humble lifestyle I'd be surprised if he could just pack work in and live out the rest of his days in a comfortable manner.
