Eh, it's an okay pick-up...and an okay card overall.

I've got some issues with both the event itself and the proposed BN coverage of it.

As of last Sunday the UK has now reset its clocks, thus resuming the normal five-hour gap between your timezone and mine that stands for eleven months of twelve (US Daylight Savings began in early March, so for a while there we only had 4 between us). So 2:30pm GMT now means 9:30pm Macau.

Per the bout sheet above, that means you're getting the world championship doubleheader - Martinez vs. Magdaleno and Viloria vs. Estrada, and the Shiming pro debut.

BoxNation usually prides itself on airing full cards, which obviously isn't the case here. It would be nice to see the Penalosa boys, along with Melindo vs. Seran and Papito's defense of his minor bauble as he continues his comeback. I understand they can often use only what is offered them when siphoning off a feed rented out by TV crews from another country (as Bunce often explains with a put upon sigh) but this is really skimpy.

My other issue isn't any fault of BN themselves, but it's annoying because I really would prefer a look at Papito instead:

Martirosyan vs. Maciel falling apart has left me not very excited about this card, with the sole hope for a highly competitive and entertaining scrap being Martinez vs. Magdaleno - which could well be marred by the dodgy scoring that has accompanied two of Rocky's three bouts since he joined Top Rank.

You might say, well there's Viloria vs. Estrada too - and you might justify Estrada getting the shot because he was competitive with Chocolatito...but in your case that would make you a complete hypocrite.

:yep OK, as long as you acknowledge it's no more legitimate a deserved challenge on Estrada's part having given Chocolatito the business than is Yaegashi's against Igarashi having given Ioka the business. :good

 

Had my time zones all screwed up. That would be 8 am on the West Coast. A little boxing in bed to start off the weekend would be a nice thing.

 

Going by the new bout sheet, the card (if one can manage to find a way to view it through, um, perfectly legal means :angel) runs live from 6am EST-11:30am EST, or 3am-8:30am Pacific.

It'll be nearly over before the rooster crows, for you. :!:

The eastern US is exactly twelve hours behind Macau, so all the listed times on the bout sheet you can just switch from PM to AM to know when in the morning each bout will be on.

British television is only picking it up from 9:30am EST/6:30am Pacific, with Martinez vs. Magdaleno the first shown.

HBO2 won't be airing it until 2:30pm EST/11:30am Pacific. :verysad

It could be worse, though. Viloria's Pinoy fans won't get to see it until Sunday morning.

 

Yeah, I'd sleep right through it. But the promo says 2 pm Pacific time. I don't get an HBO 2 east, not even sure if there is one.

The only way for us West Coasters to watch broadcasts live is to watch HBO East.

That's how I feel about Igarashi vs. Yaegashi (where unlike this one, I actually lean toward favoring the challenger moving up after having made a spirited but officially unsuccessful challenge a division south...mainly because unlike Viloria, Igarashi is a bit of a paper titlist, lucky enough to run into a meathead like Jaro holding onto something he really had no business holding) - especially considering you can make a strong case for Yaegashi having beaten Ioka but not so much Estrada having beaten Gonzalez.

 

Arum is already crowing over Viloria vs. Shiming next year. atsch

3:25pm GMT/10:25am EST - Brian Viloria vs. Juan Francisco Estrada, 12 rounds @ flyweight

4:20pm GMT/11:20am EST - Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela, 4 rounds @ flyweight

Shiming vs. Valenzuela will only run until about 4:35pm UK at the latest (due to start at 4:20pm) so they've probably left an extra half an hour for Bunce & Lillis to bring it on home with summary :blabla

 

Bob should have put on at lest one fight with big guys preferably heavyweights. I mean I know its in Asia but come on!
