Resumes can always be debated. What can't be debated is respect. Froch will always have the respect Joe Cal lacks because he constantly tests himself against tough competition and fights like a warrior.

Froch already has a better resume.

That's the end of it as far as I'm concerned. It matters not if you lose every now and again when you consistently face the best there is. Froch is what boxing is all about, you find your level and you stay at that level, no easy pickings, just good competitive fights.

I give Joe respect for fighting the likes of Bika, Kessler and Hopkins but he would NEVER have fought the run of opponents Froch has these past few years.

You can then add the other top 10 names on Calzaghes resume. Except for Mkertchyan, All the fighters listed on the Calzaghe comparison have held a SMW title and then he has

No even if Froch beats Kessler he would have some way to go

:patsch:rofl Bute hyped up as he was is better win thanEubank thats sure, Eubank didnt beat anyone years before facing Joe and was preparing for Crusierweight fight when he took this fight at what was it 15 days notice??
So Bute win is clearly better than past prime Eubank on short notice.

But Joe record > Froch record, if Froch won all his fights he would be far greater but he lost to best guys he faced so its Joe here clearly.

Eubank had had two fights in less than a year before facing Calzaghe.
Eubank had a fantastic SMW resume
You said earlier that Bute hadnt fought anyone, well before fighting Froch, Bute was coming off a win over an old boiled down SMW journeyman coming off a loss. Eubank has one of the best SMW resumes ever.
Eubank was even younger than Bute and Eubank had beaten SMW champs

Eubank was training for a LHW fight and like Calzaghe used to make weight in the last week. Even now Eubank is saying that he is walking around at LHW.
Eubank put weights in his pockets to appear heavier at CW.

Frochs resume even if he had of won and I took it that he has, still wouldnt be greater. You have to look at what the fighters did in the division they were beat in and a fighter like Pascal did nothing at SMW.

If you think Calzaghes win over Eubank is so poor, surely you cant rate Wards over Kessler
    Look below

So many people rate Wards win over Kessler as something special yet dont rate Calzaghes victory over Eubank. Why?

It was Wards 21st fight, Ward was 25
It was Calzaghes 23rd fight, Calzaghe was 25

    Ward won at home
    Calzaghe won away

When Ward beat Kessler, Kessler was 42-1-0
When Calzaghe beat Eubank, Eubank was 45-2-2

    Kessler was 31
    Eubank was 31

Kessler was 8-1 in world title fights
Eubank was 17-2-2 in world title fights

It was just under 3 years since Kessler beat a world rated opponent
It was just under 3 years since Eubank beat a world rated opponent

Kessler had only fought 3 completed rounds in 1 fight in a year before fighting Ward
Eubank had only fought 7 completed rounds in 2 fights in a year before fighting Calzaghe

    Kesslers only loss was clear
Eubanks 2 losses - first was very close (debateable) the second was a SD, to the same fighter.

    Kessler was favourite to win.
100 years of Boxing News claims Calzaghe was underdog, I have read Calzaghe was underdog but some posters claim he was betting favourite, though.

Notes Eubank was a strong favourite, but dont know where the site got its info.

Both Ward and Calzaghe had dominant performances with Calzaghe scoring 2 KDs.

After the loss Kessler beat undefeated WBC champ Froch
After the loss Eubank fought WBO CW champ Thompson and lost a close decision scoring a KD. Eubank fought a return with the bigger Thompson and lost on injury when ahead. Thompson was a CW and the only fighter to have beaten D Haye.

I have read how people on ESB say Eubank was shot so -
How far past prime was Eubank to you then?
Eubank had lost a close decision to Collins, that many thought he won, had a couple of tune ups and rematched Collins to a SD, had a couple of tune ups and lost clearly to underdog Calzaghe. After that loss Eubank went up to CW and challenged world champ Thompson losing a very close decision and then rematched Thompson losing on injury when ahead. Thats Thompson who years later past his best KOd D Haye.
Consider Eubank only had 2 losses to one fighter when he fought Calzaghe, the second by SD to a world champ and was 31 then went on to challenge a big CW flooring him etc, how past his prime do YOU think he was?
Remember Kessler is Wards big win and was the same age as Eubank here and had around the same amount of fights, so is Kessler shot as well, because Kessler has a serious eye problems and was an unwell double vision suffering fighter who has been inactive for a while now due to his injury

Remember when you make silly comments about losses was G Johnson considered past his prime when years ago after losing to Hopkins he went 7-9-2 including the Hopkins loss

I agree with you generally but I have to point out that Eubank was training to fight Mark Prince at Light Heavyweight, not Cruiserweight, when he decided instead to fight Calzaghe for the Super Middleweight title, so it wasn't as drastic a weight drop as implied.

Kessler is in his prime now.
When he lost to Joe he had beaten nobody of any worth and was injured going into the fight.

****ing hell Bailey, your still chatting **** on the general? I must say your probably the main reason I rarely show my face here.

I'm surprised your still posting that garbage about the Kessler/Eubank comparison. Eubank was a spent force, went on too lose to Carl Frickin Thompson in his next bout whereas Kessler beat Carl Froch in his next fight. Eubank had boxed 360 rounds before he fought Calzaghe, compared to Kessler's 223, that's over a 3rd less than Eubank.

I've already ruined your shitty little comparison without even mentioning the fact that Eubank took a hell of a lot more punishment against the likes of Benn x2 Watson x2 Collins x2 Close x2 and Malinga and a few more. Kessler lost to a great fighter in Calzaghe and dominated good opposition like Beyer, Andrade and Mundine dropping 2 or 3 rounds in the process (give or take) before fighting Ward.

Facts mean **** all when they're used in your context Bailey. Go take a look at your life and sort it out because repeatedly copying and pasting bull**** onto an Internet forum about a sport that you bring disgrace of the highest level to is comparable to living in a Nazi concentration camp.

    ... Rant over

In terms of the actual question, it's not really that close and there's no argument real for Froch. The two best ways of assessing resume's is by depth and top wins, Carl beats Joe in neither of the 2.

Even if Froch wins, I wouldn't rate it over Joe's win, but we'll say they cancel each others out for now just to save a back and forth argument.

Look at what Froch's resume has done since being defeated by him. Johnson, Dirrell, Abraham, Pascal, Taylor, Bute? Diddly squat not too mention the fact you've missed out some good wins on Joe's resume, which shows your slightly favouring Froch before we even begin the discussion

I've got mad respect for Froch, probably my favourite current fighter in fact and yes, he's fought and beat (bar Ward and Kessler) the best around, but that doesn't mean you've got a great resume and even if you were to completeley erase the Kessler fight and Ward fight from his resume and he keeps his 0, he's still well behind Calzaghe.

Way I see it this is simple:

Calzaghe was the best in his division for years, then became the best at another division before retiring.

Froch has never been the best in his division, and has no wins over p4p level fighters. To me, Calzaghe is just better.

Crazy how we are on the same amount of posts. Well, before I posted this anyway :think

It's also not really fair starting to compare resumes yet anyway. The quality of Froch's resume is forever changing with each of his previous opponents performances. Just an example; Bute could unify the light heavyweight division the beat Ward as he moves up, therefore giving the win a lot more significance on Carl's resume.
