Remember, in Germany AA turns to the ref on a body punch and gets points deducted as 'low blows'. I loved it when he tried that in the states and Dirrell tagged him as he was trying that ***** move here. :yep

Damned, I should go digging up old threads where Booradely and me were berated for saying the same stuff a long time ago.

Now, now, Hermey...you and boo were indeed always staunchly consistent in tipping Pavlik over Abraham, but you were hardly lone voices in the wilderness.

Team Kelly and Team Arthur were always roughly equal in size.

...with me either straddling the fence or hopping back and forth depending on whose stock had more recently risen/fallen. :yep

    Outstanding post.

Many posters, particularly those across the pond (infatuated as they are with Carl Froch), have a tendency to underrate KP.

Pavlik lost to exactly two fighters in his career: a first ballot HOFer (Hopkins) and a current P4Per (Sergio). And yet, to listen to a lot of these yahoos on here, KP was nothing more than an "exposed" drunk who would surely lose in virtually every hypothetical ESB match-up.

Kudos, moreover, for citing the year of in which KP smashed Zertuche and Miranda, followed by the stoppage of Taylor. An outstanding accomplisment, indeed.

:nod I'm combing the dossiers of other middleweight champs from this era to see if any has a calendar year that is even close.

Maravilla had 2010 with UD12 Pavlik and KO2 Williams, 2011 with TKO8 Dzinziruk and KO11 Barker, and 2012 with RTD11 Macklin and UD12 Chavez Jr. - all very solid but not enough to eclipse the combined punch that is packed by KO8 Zertuche, TKO7 Miranda, and TKO7 Taylor.

Taylor himself has 2005 with TKO3 Edouard (prior to becoming champion), SD12 Hopkins and UD12 Hopkins. Given the controversial nature of both decisions, those don't cut the mustard either. Then in 2006 he falls well short with D12 Wright and UD12 Ouma.

Not even Hopkins during his 160lb reign had a calendar year to best Kelly's '07. In 2004 he combined UD12 Allen (inexplicable unnecessary second rematch) with KO9 De La Hoya (didn't belong at middleweight and everybody knows Sturm had beaten him). 2003 - RTD8 Hakker and UD12 Joppy. Nope. 2002 - RTD10 Daniels. **** no. 2001 - UD12 Holmes and TKO12 Trinidad. Close but no cigar. His best shout is probably 1997 with TKO7 Jackson, TKO11 Johnson, and UD12 Council but even that doesn't touch it.

It goes without saying that other contemporaneous beltholders of the last decade (Pirog, Zbik, Chavez Jr., Abraham, Sturm) don't have such a year.

At middle I saw Abraham come forward and be offensive against only Raul Marquez who couldn't hurt him. He did come forward a little more against the ghost of JT at smw. Other than that? Lay on the ropes and invite the guy to come punch himself out and wait for an opening. As Boo used to say, the ropes are where Kelly's opponents go to die. Kelly was always very careful picking his shots against someone not throwing back, even when he had them hurt. He had the length to be outside AA's wheel house while doing this too. We will never know now for sure though.

That **** always annoyed me with Abraham. Nowhere near as bad as B-Hop or John Ruiz with his whining over fouls, but he'd always get hit on the waistline and act like it was some Pedroza-esque uppercut to the balls.

I favor Pavlik here due to workrate. Pavlik was a busy fighter, he had a very good jab and straight right hand. On the inside, he could mix up his combos pretty well, even throwing a right hook and then following it with a right uppercut. He wasn't the most athletically gifted in terms of speed and reflexes, but he had a pretty nice offensive arsenal.

Hopkins was able to lower his work rate and befuddle him, but that is Hopkins. Abraham would get outworked and shell up too much, and give away rounds by being too selective with his punches.

Abraham might stun Pavlik, he'll maybe he scores a KD, but Pavlik wins a clear UD.

Too bad we never got to see this

If Abraham can neutralize Pavlik's jab, he has a good chance. If he cannot, Pavlik will just fire away all night on him. Abraham does not exchange with fighters, instead he fights in rushes when others take little breaks. Pavlik does not take many breaks in there. Abraham would have to force exchanges to win because Pavlik controls range and blocks punches pretty well. If Abraham does force exchanges, his chances go up dramatically with his punching power.

The thing is, will he force exchanges and go for broke? He did not do it against lesser guys than Pavlik. I see Pavlik winning a fairly wide decision.
