Can Anyone Beat Robinson over 15 At Welterweight?

I thought of doing a thread about fighters who were considered unbeatable at a given weight and naturally came up with this.......whom do you see beating SRR over the distance at 147? Is it a given he couldn't be taken there? We know 160 was a different story, but......

 

Somebody could. Walker or Leonard or Hearns or Marlon Starling. Just I don't think I would favor anyone.

 

At SRR's peak at welter, s, don't see anyone beating him...maybe a spirited go, but that's it.

SRR wasn't a silky, stand-up boxer/puncher. He was a STONE KILLER!

 

Dozens could. Maybe a handful would. None would I favour to do it though.

 

His weaknesses are defense and workrate, so I'd say 2 types stand a shot:

1. Boxer movers who could hit him and avoid being hit, both Gavilian and Bell who embodied these characteristics, so did Turpin for that matter

2. Pressure fighters who could outwork him, I mean his first loss was to Lamotta based on pressure, yes Lamotta was bigger but

So going with that

1. Boxer movers:

Leonard (a Leonard using his movement is a better defensive fighter and he has it all in his package)
Hearns (as long as he boxes smart, a big question mark)
(the likes of Mayweather/Whitaker/Ross are probably too small to pull it off)

2. Pressure guys (a tougher proposition imo)

Duran
Honeyghan
(Napoles/Armstrong are too small)

 

of course!

was he the greatest ever WW, perhaps he was the greatest ever fighter period.

but he could still be beat by other greats and more than some would just automaticly care not to think. and especially over a serious of a couple of fights or more.

 

In the whole history of boxing within she welterweight division there's gonna be dozens who could given the right set of circumstances.

There's no such thing as an unbeatable fighter, there will be guys people don't even know about who could pull it off on the right night.

Like I said I wouldn't pick anyone to do it but where he to fight every man who's ever been top ranked in the ww division he's gonna pick up losses.

Robinson pretty much carried Gavilan in the first fight in order for a title fight to be made. Not carry as in hold off on stopping him, but rather just not to go all out so as to make the fight closer and more profitable for a title fight rematch. Robinson then easily won.

example; two Brits, Ted Kid Lewis & Ernie Roderick could snatch a win and Tiger and Griffith too could snatch a win.

Cerdan, Villimain and Burley and these are just a few from his own time frame more or less.

 

Griffith would get his ass whooped. LOL @ Ernie Roderick. Tiger was a Middleweight.

 

SRR was a WW cum MW, so that fits.

Ernie Roderick is Britains second or third British greatest WW depends on how you list him with Berg, Kid Lewis, Berg & Roderick.

Roderick was a beautiful boxer, who on his best night was fit for ANY WW in history, would he beat them all, No, could he get some good wins of course.

the TOP men are the TOP, straight as that!
