There were a lot of reasons why those fights didn't come off. Promoters (Don King), network (Showtime), finances, etc. I think people forget that none of those 168lbers fought the best guy in the division (Toney) and that Jones obliterated the super middle they all had in common and they all struggled with (Malinga).

But triangle/linear theories don't work in boxing.

    You can't just say
Well.. Ali lost to Frazier who got dominated by Foreman. so Foreman no longer need to fight Ali.. since he'll beat him since he beat Frazier.

    The bottom line is..

If Roy had fought Benn-Mccellan-Dariuz-Nunn-Eubank-Collins-Jackson and beat them all like people said he could.
He sky rockets to top 20 ATG. (All Divisions)

His decline was also confusing,, but that's in another on going thread atm.

I said more than that not just the Malinga part actually. And I'm not sure why beating any of those non-HOF'ers leaps him up x amount of spots but that's another debate.

As far as his decline, it really wasn't confusing. You could see the start of it a couple years earlier. Why would anyone be surprised that someone whose 35/36 and been a professional for 15 years starts losing?

He beat the best two out of your list of 9.. Including these 9

    Tarver
    Hill
    Johnson
    McCallum
    Ruiz
    Griffin
    Malinga
    Gonzalez
    Woods

Roy has 2 ATG wins, and several very solid wins, a couple almost great due to how he won. Not to mention he held a HW belt for a short period of time, which any HW is a "big puncher" to a former JMW.

He is clearly a greater fighter than anyone you listed, and will be remembered that way.. It is obvious they needed his name more than he theirs..

You also have guys like Calzaghe saying he wasn't chasing him, and Nigel Benn saying he didn't mind being second to him.

How on earth can Barrera be on that list.

Both Oscar & Tyson replaces him easily.

    Holyfield's record is clearly superior

He beat Qawi after only 12 fights then knocked him out in a rematch a year later, a year after that he stopped DeLeon to unify all the belts at cruiser.

Then Holy moved up to heavyweight where on average, he was over 15lbs lighter than his opponents. Within 2 years Holy was the undisputed HW champion & 18 years later he arguably beat Valuev to become HW champion for the 5th time.

Holy has beaten more lineal HW champions than anyone, he's fought more than 20 world champions during his 25 year career & is the only man to have won 4 HW world titles.

Pac is great but he doesn't have a better resume than Holyfield.

Tyson and Oscar were not put on the list for specific reasons.

The year end rankings of 1992 looked like this:

    1: Michael Nunn
    2: Iran Barkley
    3: Chris Eubank
    4: Victor Cordoba
    5: Nigel Benn
    6: Tim Littles
    7: Darrin Van Horn
    8: Tony Thornton
    9: Frankie Liles
    10: Frank Nicotra

    He fought Thornton in 1995.

    1993:

    1: James Toney
    2: Michael Nunn
    3: Chris Eubank
    4: Nigel Benn
    5: Tim Littles
    6: Darrin Van Horn
    7: Frankie Liles
    8: Tony Thornton
    9: Antoine Byrd
    10: Vincenzo Nardiello

1994: Jones enters the list at no. 1 after beating Toney.

    1: Roy Jones Jr.
    2: Nigel Benn
    3: Chris Eubank
    4: Frankie Liles
    5: Vinny Pazienza
    6: Tim Littles
    7: Michael Nunn
    8: Ray Close
    9: Graciano Rocchigiani
    10: Antoine Byrd

    1995:

    1: Roy Jones Jr.
    2: Nigel Benn
    3: Steve Collins
    4: Frankie Liles
    5: Tim Littles
    6: Vinny Pazienza
    7: Bryant Brannon
    8: Henry Wharton
    9: Michael Nunn
    10: Ray Close

    1996:

    1: Roy Jones Jr.
    2: Frankie Liles
    3: Steve Collins
    4: Vinny Pazienza
    5: Robin Reid
    6: Henry Wharton
    7: Michael Nunn
    8: Vincenzo Nardiello
    9: Joseph Kiwanuka
    10: Thulani Malinga

At the end of 1996 Jones had moved up.

So Jones work after 4 years at 168 lb consist of an excellent win over Toney and not much else:

    Toney
    Thornton
    Pazienza (LOL)
    Byrd
    Brannon

Jones never fought a top 3 opponent after Toney. He had 6 fights at 168 after beating him. Of those fights he beat an unranked Thornton, a suspected juiced lightweight in Pazienza, a past it Byrd, a never was in Sosa, a young non-threat in Lucas and a veteran of 16 fights in Brannon.

So the deserving fighters Jones didn't fight is these guys:

    Nunn
    Benn
    Eubank
    Collins
    Barkley
    Cordoba
    Littles
    Van Horn
    Liles
    Nardiello
    Close
    Rocchigianni

Get out of here with this ****, it's boring!

You've pulled those list of names at the bottom of your page, either from a previous thread on here, or from another website.

Either way, at least half of those fighters weren't deserving in anyway.

Whoever's made it up is a complete idiot!

Since when Roy at 168 for 4 years?? Ha!

This was on here about 4 months ago, and I shredded the list.

I went by each name and including all the relevant stats.

Originally, the list was meant to be deserving fighters who'd he'd missed at 168. So I don't know if you've missed the 168 bit off.

Let me give you just a few examples.

Roy fought at 168 from 94-96.

    In that period:

Nunn only had two fights there.

    Barkley had NO fights there.

Ray Close only had ONE fight there, a loss to Eubank.

Eubank has admitted he didn't want Roy and was happy boxing on ITV and Sky.

Cordorba only had ONE fight at the weight

Van Horn only had ONE fight in 94, then RETIRED.

Roch lost to Eubank, fought 2 nobodies, drew with Sellier then moved to 175.

Six of the above guys clearly weren't deserving!

As for your ratings lists, you haven't allowed for any circumstances.

    Such as,

Roy Snr held Roy back when he was young, and while Toney, Jackson, G-Man, Johnson, Nunn, and McCallum etc were all fighting each other at 160 in the early 90's, Roy was fighting nobodies at Pensacola fairgrounds.

Then by the time he'd won the vacant belt vs Hop, he was already too tight at the weight. After Hop he was boxing as high as 167, so he had to move up to 168. He didn't deliberately avoid all the best guys at 160, it was just unfortunate circumstances.

At 168 he didn't have a chance to unify, because Don King had the other main belt holders in Benn and Likes, and Roy's handlers - The Levin's, despised King, and didn't want to deal with him. After Roy had beaten Toney, there was nothing else to do, so he moved to 175.

Again, these stats that you've listed haven't allowed for CIRCUMSTANCES.

If Roy was so tough.. how come he didn't fight an old shot aging Lewis?

    Lennox Lewis
