Do you Want Broner to Stay at 147 or Move Down?

He should stay at 147 until the winner of the lil 140 tourney is done then fight the winner

 

this is what is probably going to happen unless Floyd takes one of the 140lbs out of the tourney for his September fight

 

No need for him to be at 147. lot of good fights at 140 even 135 for
that matter. he can still make it happen with Burns,Vasquez, Abril and
endless opportunity at 140. No need to be at 147 for a few years.

I'd like him to come back down to 135 and wipe out the guys there, and make a more natural progression up to 147. It'll be better for his legacy if he went through the divisions fighting the best available. Because, as it will stand when he faces Paulie, he'd have won titles at three weight divisions against three 'meh' opponents. Demarco and a past-prime Paulie -- both who were/are not the number one guys in their divisions -- will have been his best wins. For a three-weight world champion that's supposed to be the next star of the sport, that's pretty light.

GBP's decision to move him up so quick to 147, is a poor one. They instead should be trying to put more substance to his resume by getting him to unify against Abril and Vasquez before departing from 135.

 

Mix it up with the 140 crew.

Bradely/Alexander/Brook winner would be great fights for him at 147.

He has options across all the weight categories.

 

As a fan of boxing I say go where the best fights are at (as long he is comfortable at that weight and regardless of division). As a realist, he should go where he can make the most money . . . both of these answers are probably 147 (all the top guys at 140 are all chasing floyd and manny). most fighters want to fight at that weight because that is where the big money is at.

 

Demarco, was the top ranked guy at 135, it is only in hindsight that people claim that that Vasquez, Burns and Abril had a claim. Boxer do not fight to clean out divisions, they fight to make money. if there is more money north of 135, its probably a good move. you could argue that by unifying the titles at 135 would make him more marketable and make more money in the long run. However, I think this is a weak argument because he is already one of the most marketable young guns in the game and more time at 135 would be a waste of time in the limited time any boxer has in their career.

 

And fans don't watch boxing to watch fighters make money. They watch it to be treated to the best fights. Because am I getting any of that money? The thread's asking what I want Broner to do. I want him to be taken through the weights because that means more entertaining fights for me, a fan. Not his manager.

Edit: And Demarco top ranked according to who? Not by me and others who were already aware of what Abril had done to Rios and how good Vasquez is. Not to mention Ricky Burns, one of the most improved fighters in the world in the past couple of years.

 

If he is going to fight at 147 only to move back down to 135 or 140 why move him up to 147 to fight just one time in the first place?

If he stays at 147 Broner vs Mayweather will be huge by next year. Floyd doesn't have that many BIG PPV attractions other than Canelo. So Broner at 147 will benefit GBP.

Forget about Marquez, Rios, Pac and Bradley, they are all with TR.

 

If he can make the weight safely, go to 140..or stay at 147 and fight Lopez/Maidana winner,w hich is a good fight.

 

135lbs is a **** boring division and I'm not really interested in it.

Most of the top 140s are tied up at the moment and there is nothing available of note for Broner at 135. So why not? He'll make good money for a fight he and his team believes he will win. Schaefer told me that if Broner wins he would certainly be open to coming back to 140 for some of the big names there. But right now none of the top 140s are available to fight Broner in June -- Garcia, Judah, Khan, Peterson, Matthysse are all scheduled with other bouts.

Let's hope it plays out this way.
