On his fb that he's maybe fighting in May good or bad idea? I still think the guy has something to offer.
He was massive at superbantam, might be better off at feather (but then again doing that he loses his physical advantages...) He wasted a lot of time after the Nishioka fight. Between that and the Quigg fight he pissed around for two years fighting nobodies.
The weakness has been exposed for all to see. Ricky Hatton found that out. Paulie was practically begging for him to still fight after the loss. All gone rather quite on Hattons part. He was humbled in the ring, but he is silent in the media, he was active at one time, now nowhere to be seen or heard. Some say.....the body shot sent him into a cave where he slowly turned into another Gollum. But no ring or title belt to hold onto. :|
He's one of the good guys Rendall. However, he rode the crest of a wave that took him as far as he can go. He made some decent money, he should stay retired with his faculties and pride in tact.
TBH he looked for the last 18 months like a man who lost love for the game and become quite a aggressive person in his interviews not the likeable chap we all liked. More snappier and with a snarl. His worst move was leaving Maloney for Hatton.
i think he should stay retired before he gets hurt, he cant compete with youngsters like quigg & frampton anymore
He finished at exactly the right time,i don't see What he could achieve coming back Also after quigg fight didn't he say he had lost his desire
I'd have a fight at Super-Feather or Lightweight, just to test the waters. He was far too big for Bantamweight or SB, he couldn't take body shots because he quite frankly killed his body himself before fights making weight. Go up and be stronger. Have a fight just to see if he's got any air left in his tyres. If it doesn't go well then fair enough, pack it in again and walk away knowing he gave it a try but it wasn't to be. He could do well though, boxing's littered examples of fighters who everyone thought was finished but they moved up and gave their career's a shot in the arm.
I remember reading an interview after the 2nd Quigg fight where he said that he had been so up for the first one back in June but for the rematch he felt like he was just going through the motions in the gym. Still think he's got something to offer but if the desire isn't there then it probably isn't such a good idea.
Why not come back if he is missing it. Just because you are not World Champlion level doesn't mean he shouldn't continue. He is always in good shape and hasn't taken a lot of punishment in his career so good luck to him if he does.
The thing with Rendal is he is a fitness fanatic if you have him on FB you will know he constantly updates it with his training regime which seems for a "retired" boxer pretty stringent. I also gather that he has been unable to get his old job with BIFFA back doing the bins despite the fact he was a massive ambassador for them which seems a bit unfortunate. So I think I think these two factors may be a bit of motivation for him.
Hope it goes well for him if he does come back it seems a bit of a cliche but he really does come across as a good guy.
