I respect your opinion, and everyone elses, and obviously there's no right answer.

    It's a great debate!

But I would look at who everyone fought and beat, but more importantly when? What were the circumstances involved?

Lewis has got Holy and Tyson on his record, but Tyson was shot. Did he beat any great fighters in their prime etc?

Manny's resume jumps straight out at you, because it reads:

    MAB X3,
    Morales X 3
    JMM X 4.

    Those are 10 great fights.

But I have to ask why he fought those guys as many times.

    Look at Roy's resume.

He barely lost a round in his prime, and he was that dominant he didn't need rematches and trilogies when he was at his best.

    Roy's resume reads:

    Hopkins X 1
    Toney X 1
    Hill X 1
    Ruiz X 1

Lets say that Manny beat all of those fighters convincingly, and didn't need rematches.

Then lets say that Roy had great back and forth competitive fights.

    What if Manny's resume read:

    MAB X1
    Morales X 1
    JMM X 1.

    What if Roy's read:

    Toney X 4
    Hopkins X 2
    Hill X 2
    Ruiz X 2

Roy's resume would probably jump out at you a lot more.

There's lots of things that need taking into consideration.

i could be wrong, as i can't find any sources to prove this specifically, but i believe that hopkins had very few, or even zero amateur fights.

he fought in the prison boxing system, but i don't think that those are considered official amateur bouts. i could be wrong, but i can't get into the sources too deeply until tonight.

hopkins was doing well when he fought jones, but he wasn't yet a finished product. he had only lost in his debut, and he had a lot of knockouts. jones was quite young himself, too.

but, given what hopkins was able to do down the road, it's still a big win. they should have fought each other long before that awful rematch in '10

He doesn't have a couple of stoppage losses in his early career, like Pac does. In his prime at cruiser he was unbeatable, up until Lewis he'd only lost to Moorer (which he avenged by KO) & Bowe.

The vast majority of his losses were when he was well past his best, unlike Pacquiao who lost twice early on in his career, was beaten by an old Morales & could've lost all 4 to Marquez. If Manny fights on for another 10 years he'll end up with even more losses than Holy has.

Holy has beaten the better competition imo & he's fought...

CW Champions: Qawi x2, Braxton, Ocasio, Deleon

HW Champions: Thomas, Dokes, Douglas, Foreman, Holmes, Bowe x3, Moorer x2, Mercer, Tyson x2, Lewis x2, Ruiz x3, Rahman, Byrd, Ibragimov & Valuev

He's also fought Toney, Cooper, Stewart x2 & many more.

Pacquiao has moved up through a lot of divisions but he's never given away as much weight as Holy has, who spent the majority of his career fighting much bigger opponents & at a higher level of competition than Pac's.

Toney should be added to the poll. Also Ricardo Lopez.

:lol::lol: So now Lennox ducked Roy Jones Jr is that it?
Any VERSION of Lennox. ANY VERSION. From the Rahman I Drugged Version to the 265 Pound tko6 version.. to the debut version to the Calvin Jones version.. will brutally and viciously shatter Roy Jones Jr's chin into so many pieces that Alexandre Grothendieck himself won't be able to put back together.

    Thats easy to say now...

Not so much after Lewis fought Vitali.... There were many experts entertaining the idea of Roy beating Lennox.. And Roy seriously wanted to fight him.. Now I am not saying Lennox ducked Roy, but it is a fact that a fight was talked about.

    No there weren't..

the only guy who thought that is that ******ed ****ing ****** poster IronDanHazma who post on that other site. He's a stupid little boy who wanks off to his dad.. but other than him nobody thought Roy was gonna beat Lennox. Is that a joke? Lewis's jab alone will seriously hurt ROy.

Roy would be clowning and winning the 1st round before Lewis catches him with a glazing pawed right hand and that will end it.

COME ON DUDE. Roy got knocked out cold by GLEN JOHNSON.

No... Roy fans are going over their heads in this one. Nobody blame Roy for not fighting Lewis.. but Roy fans are acting like Roy WANTED TO FIGHT LENNOX and wasn't scared.. They need to wake up and smell the Jamician coffee. Roy wanted no part of Lewis..

In fact I will pick a LONG line of Lennox victims to beat any version of Roy.

    Tua
    Ruddock
    Holyfield
    Bruno
    Morrison
    Briggs
    Vitali
    Tyson 2002
    Tucker
are just names off the top of my head.

I think Roy vs Prime Calvin Jones is a toss up.

From the surface, it's a easy question to answer. Of course Roy deserves all the credit and it's a huge win. Young Roy beat Young Bernard.

But, if you dig a little deeper I feel that Roy does deserve credit but not to the extend that some have given him. If you watch the Roy Jones of Hopkins days and compare it to the Roy Jones who was dominating a couple years later. There is virtually no difference. Roy always had his amazing reflexes and his ability to set traps, counters. His blinding speed and his sheer athleticism. Roy was a freak of nature and a great great fighter.

Bernard on the other hand against Roy during the early 90's only had his youth, his toughness, and his athleticism. Hopkins became a far more progressed version of himself during his prime MW days later on. He became a wonderful defensive wizard who neutralized your best assets, he still had his power and his speed during his prime MW days but also added a far more elevated level of defensive abilities as compare to the young Bernard Roy fought. A lot of the counters/slip works he was getting caught with in that match, the Hopkins of Trinidad days would never even have gotten close to getting caught with.
In short, Roy didn't really improve that much as a boxer since Hopkins I, Hopkins improved leaps and bounds. I think those facts are undeniable. That being said Roy Jones Jr deserve a LOT OF credit for that win. Just not AS MUCH as some fans like to point out.
