They embrace warmly after the bell, and then part to once more degenerate into violence. Malaspina throws hooks to the body and head. Diaz has to hold, leaning down on him. Malaspina dives in with a jab to the body and they clinch. Rights to the body by Malaspina using his free hand. Body shots in answer by Diaz, who seems to be clinging on tenuously. Flurries to the head by Diaz as Malaspina crashes into him with uppercuts to the ribs and hard woodpecker jabs to the cheek. Malaspina seems like he could go another six, while Diaz looks ready to collapse.

That was the 2nd time he ever fought outside his native land...both times entering his opponent's backyard and both times getting comprehensively beaten. (the first by shutout at the hands of Cool Willie Kickett in Australia)

Rodriguez beat Escobar - a professional distance-goer who's flirting with a losing record - by UD in a 6-rounder at this same venue last July.

Escobar is a handy enough journeyman by domestic standards. He went the long haul with Arash Usmanee, Mauricio Munoz, Matias Ezequiel Gomez, and (FWIW ) Fernando Saucedo...so aside from obviously Broner he may have actually been in with a higher class than Rodriguez.

He is coming off two rebound victories since the loss to Rodriguez, including an upset SD over Federico Malaspina from the co-feature.

 

This is for the Argentinian super featherweight title.
