This is cool vid I just came across uploaded on February. Roach teaches him to keep his movement focused on controlling the center, focus on throwing his jab at shoulder level to protect his chin, and sweep with his hook to finish at an unreachable angle in a matter of minutes. Of course, the long-term process is what counts on fight night. Also interesting how he deals with the language barrier. [yt]MU-1LW06Gng[/yt] Here's another: [yt]1v8H8sr2U2c[/yt]
I'll give Roach credit, he's a really good offensive coach. Can really teach a fighter how to sit down on their punches and how to create angles. We all know the weaknesses to him, but I won't bother to mention them. I think we've bashed him enough this past year :yep
Yeah, he's had it rough. He's one of the best in the game no matter what keyboard warriors say. He can't help it that Khan flew out to the US just for his 6-week training camps and abandoned the plan, that Chavez didn't show up, and that Manny was a raw product as an experienced fighter when he arrived at the Wild Card. I think what's most impressive is that he incorporates part of defense simultaneously with offense, which is where the angles come in. Slip the right hand while throwing a right hand and stepping leftward; weave and exit out the side and set up a combo; etc. Having Shiming throw responsibly at shoulder level is an important thing to ingrain early, because it's something that Manny and Khan struggled with.
What type of fighting style does Shiming adopt? I saw that 2nd video couple of days ago and also a video where he is 'killing the speed bag' lol. Nothing stands out. Guess we'll see the real him when he faces someone of value.
wow I try to have one moment of fairness and you respond like a ****** (again). I guess I'll go back to treating you like you;re meant to be treated This content is protected
Horrible movement by Shiming. Even worse that Roach doesn't correct it. At this stage, I'm guessing Roach is only looking to refine his fighter's strengths as he did with Manny. Time will tell if they find solid base of learning, adapting and improving. One shouldn't make such harsh judgements over a short clip, but you wouldn't know Zou Shiming is a three time olympic medalist
yeah, I thought Roach was overrated before, but I still think he's one of the best trainers. He hasn't had a significant win in a while and like you said, a lot of it wasn't his fault. and I liked that also. Shiming can be an offensive machine, while still be responsible. Plus at that division, he'll be able to move around the ring and use his feet for defense easier
It's unpolished but not horrible, picked up on the difference right away with Roach's instructions. He has a chance to develop a fighter relatively fresh, I think he's going to pay attention to fundamentals. You're right about how he looks in general though. As awesome as it is to win a medal at the Olympics, there's still a long way to go to get to the heights of a world-level professional. To me he looks talented but not fully matured and that's completely expected. Yup, a tight offense and solid movement seems to suit him very well.
Crazy interesting to see the language barrier between the two. Man, that has to be difficult. I don't know how people do it.
Zhou already had that type of offense in the ams, it's just that he still needs a freddy roach, am offensive coach just like bbal said, to make his full potential at the pros. He'll be clocked by viloria though.
China, then India are probably the next great markets, it's best that boxing gets a foothold in their before UFC does. Zou Shiming was such a fast amateur on his feet, I wonder how his style will adapt and chin hold up after he starts sitting down on his punches. it's going to be interesting to see what promoters try and get in on the Chinese market, I know Hatton promotions have an Asian arm.
