Rocky Marciano vs Sam McVea

How do you see this one turning out?

 

two huge punchers who threw shots that weren't exactly refined.

Both had huge power and both seemed to have a fairly solid chin so I think this goes to the scorecards.

I take Rocky on points.

Good lord, read Langford's account of McVea as a retreating, jabbing nuisance. Not at all the monster he's made out to be these days. He took a good picture. He was a decent fighter.

 

I thought that the jab either hadn't been invented then, or people hadn't figured out how to throw more than one.

Surely McVea wasa visionary and would have used this invention to clean out the era!

 

that's just a case of the bully being bullied though isn't it, happened many times through history when a puncher comes up against a bigger puncher.

It's not difficult to picture him squaring up with this dwarf like figure, exchange hooks and immediately think "**** that".

For McVey to be this backfoot jabber his entire record would pretty much have to a lie. We've seen the film of him, we've seen his record, the only thing that makes sense is he could hit like a mule kick and when someone hit harder he fought to survive.

Which brings me back to my conclusion of Rocky UD.

 

Film of McVea too blurry for my eyes. Although a lot of black fighters back then were flat flooted on that alone i'd pick Rocky

 

And the footage backs it up.

Marciano would drub him, knock him down loads of times, and probably stop him at some point.

 

depends how long the fight is, over 15 I reckon McVey survives.

 

My take is that while McVea was aq formidable finisher, he tended not to force the fight, prefering to counterpunch and react to what the other guy did.

I suspect that he got a lot of his knockouts by waiting for the other guy to make a mistake.

 

I'd go with Rocky certainly

Well, I think McVea looks bad in that footage....only some minutes, yes, but no way Rocky would look like that if we only had some minutes of him.
Anyway, McVea was a big puncher and would have a chance because of that I guess....but that´s all I suppose, the safest bet would be Rocky for sure...

 

Actually, McVea was a lot bigger, at least 20-25 pounds so. And he had a murderous left hook.

I think the question is how would he fight someone he has such a huge size advantage over. Would he assert his superior weight or retreat and counter?
