Round 1

Heiland pops the right jab to the body. Ataide turns and watches him. Slow 1-2 over Heiland's head from outside by Ataide. Heiland keeps pushing the right jab into Ataide's chest while moving left. Wild overhand left sailing up from behind the hip by Heiland. Ataide circles left and throws some wide, slow uppercuts from outside. Heiland shimmies and leans deeply to either side while circling. Right jabs flipped up by Heiland, not very sharp but managing to prod Ataide in the chest regularly nonetheless. Light left to the body by Heiland. Weak slapping flurries by Ataide, arms cutting in wide from either side. Heiland ducks and rolls to a side. Heiland switches directions and flips up right jabs while moving to his right. Ataide catches him with a slow counter 1-2 and Heiland nods his approval before raising his guard. Right jab upstairs by Heiland, and a big left over the top.

Round 2

Heiland is shrinking back out of the way of Ataide's slow right hand. Heiland loops a left casually into Ataide's jaw while strolling by. Heiland ducks and stretches his right jab up high enough to tickle Ataide under the chin with it. Ataide pushes his left jab and drives a slow right hand into Heiland's stomach. Wild & wooly exchange, both missing hooks or crashing their fists into forearm. Brief clinch. Heiland circles right, lands a jab, and has a follow-up 1-2 blocked. Ataide ties up. Heiland jumps outside and gets chased to the ropes with a lunging series of straight to the body from Ataide. Heiland grabs him by the back of the neck and spins away from the ropes. Ataide clubs down at him as Heiland shells up. Flush right hand by Ataide when Heiland peeks out between his thumbs creating an opening. Slapping left hook by Ataide when Heiland ducks behind his guard, borderline rabbit punch. Wild left hook by Heiland, missing.

Round 3

Heiland is whipping in the left hand from a low holster up to Ataide's right ear. Ataide takes a few slow trotting steps back to optimize his reach and starts dusting Heiland's short-cropped hair with light jabs. Loosely swung uppercuts by Ataide slowly wend their way in toward Heiland and miss but keep him from rushing in. Heiland works the body, digging low to get close, and clinches. Right jabs far wide of goal by Heiland. Sloppy right hand lead by Ataide from outside. Heiland runs into a few more very, very, very soft right hands by Ataide dribbling off his face as he lunges with lefts to the body and tries to grab. Left hook downstairs by Ataide.

Round 4

Heiland is trading with the longer and ganglier opponent from outside, catapulting lefts against the straight left jab of Ataide. The jab is landing better. Ataide switches southpaw and drops a few right jabs into Heiland's face before switching back and dancing out of reach. Lunging left to the body by Heiland diving in, hitting the crossed forearms of Ataide and nearly tumbling head first through the ropes when Ataide pivots away. Sloppy infighting and holding by both. The ref has a difficult time splitting them and maintaining order. Right hand by Ataide, across the left eye of Heiland. Big looping left up top by Heiland.

Round 5

Heiland is pushing up skyward punches with both hands as he attempts to bob and weave his way in. Ataide prances around him, chin hanging up in the air without a care, knowing Heiland is too slow and too wild and with too low a center of gravity, too short a wingspan, and too much inclination to betray his intentions to catch him with any head shots. Heiland keeps trying in vain for a minute to catch the moving target as it slaps light counter jabs at him before switching to a body attack. Left uppercuts and far-reaching right hooks by Heiland, still missing. Ataide bounces around sticking soft jabs and plunging rights into Heiland's face. Heiland tries crowding Ataide into the ropes and puts up a high right jab but is easily slipped.

Round 6

Heiland walks into a right hand. The referee stops the action for some reason and brings Ataide into a neutral corner. He kicks some blue pillow thing someone is holding off the outer edge of the ring apron. :huh The referee is speaking with someone at ringside - maybe a commission representative - who is holding up a small white cylindrical object. Someone else in a green-and-white jersey comes over for a heated discussion with the man in the suit at ringside about the white object while the boxers wait in the ring with bemused but waning patience, sweat cooling. Big argument, whatever it is. Lots of people involved now. The man in the suit keeps gesticulating with the little white thing as the man in the jersey yells in his face, and finally waves his arms overhead. The man in the suit hands the white object to the referee.

All I know is, Heiland was getting licked and is damn lucky that whatever happened...happened.

No, seriously...it's his ring name. Douglas "The Good Boy" Ataide Santos. It's even printed on his trunks. :rofl

 

Alright, so apparently what happened was Ataide Santos had something called a "vasodilator" in his corner. Someone in his team dropped it on the canvas while removing the stool between the 5th and 6th, and the referee noticed it as the action was resuming when the combatants answered the bell.

I guess it's a banned device? Something about widening blood vessels, which I presume helps stamina? :think

I've never seen anything like Vasodilator-gate before.

They just interrupted the action once the ref spied it, and that was essentially that. Once they determined for sure what the little doodad was, the automatic disqualification was ruled.

How embarrassing to a) be caught using a Performance Enhancing Device (which I'm still more than hazy on the functionalism of...is that gizmo an inhaler?), and worse b) have it be due to your own clumsy butterfingers, or your trainer's. Bad time for the dropsies. :-(
