Is a complete ****ing idiot?

Mayweather represents boxing to a lot of people who don't follow the sport. He gets more mainstream media coverage in the west than any other fighter, yet he's a convicted criminal, he can barely string two sentences together in a interview, he is defensive and almost entirely incapable of actually answering a question without ducking it and spouting absolute nonsense. And at the bottom of it all he's just doesn't come across as a likeable person.

I can't help but think how much better its be for the sport if we had a real likeable boxing superstar, charismatic, good in interviews, honest and was actually capable of capturing the public imagination. But most of all actually cared about the well being of the sport as a whole.

For all his boxing skills and ability Floyd isn't this guy. Sure he's worked well at a model that allows him to become one of the richest athletes in sports (and props for that) but if anything that is counter productive to boxing as a whole. It certainly doesn't help the wider sport of its up and coming names.

Anyway, I'm not discrediting him as a fighter or his ability to make money, I'm simply talking about how different it might be for the sport if we had a star who was the opposite of Floyd. Do we have anyone in the pipeline who could be that guy? Certainly not in the shirt term. I mean its certainly not Broner. Ward would fit the bill a lot more in terms of personality but I just don't see him being a cross over star.

Yeah he went to prison for a **** he didn't commit, I meant America will never let a black fighter drain another boxer by 9 pounds than act like it's an amazing win.

 

Tyson was enigmatic, and was destroying people. He became a star because of his brutality as much as anything.

 

for every boxer who comes close to being what you wrote about being charismatic, likeable and all, there will always be at least that one hater, you just can't please anyone

He is what he is,look at his father and uncle they are the same way personality wise so it's obviously in his genetics.

He is a genius in the ring and that's where it counts.

 

The person that probably would benefit boxing alot is David haye.
