Hayes a good talker but he's an arrogant knob aswell,he doesn't put a good face on the sport imo.

Did you forget his brawl with Chisora at the presser in Germany?

    Great advert for the sport

Over the years i’ve learned to ignore out of the ring shenanigans and appreciate fighters for what they do in the ring. Easy for me to do I suppose as Mayweathers my favourite fighter lol. But when his career is said and done I think what he did as a fighter will be appreciated. Only concern I have for him is that he’ll probably be remembered for not making the best fights happen for whatever reason. As for who gets to represent the sport and be the face of it, the sport sometimes can’t choose who that can be. Pacquiao was the man during his red hot run from 2008 to 2010. He was respectful and easy to warm to and had a fan favourite style. But that same style was never going to last long and so the responsibility was always going to fall into Mayweathers hands who may or may not do a good job of it. The fact is he operates in a way which makes him keep winning and last long. He’s the polar opposite of someone like Pacquiao who fought in a dangerous manner against dangerous opponents regularly. Mayweathers a smart man. He’s turned his career into a business.

Does it even matter? I mean it's like if Kate Upton was a well spoken genius who had many amazing abilities besides being able to look good I suppose she'd be doing every other model an extra nice favor. People don't really care about your flaw when you've reached the top. Take a look at Pacquiao. Nobody cares if all he knows is a few English phrases.

I tend to think it wouldn't make that much of a difference. Adding more brain power to Floyd and getting him to behave like a perfect gentleman would be like what Tiger was for golf prior to his scandal. Nothing particularly special.

Boxing is a sport but it's also a bad boy sport. Gotta leave room for a bit of recklessness.

Boxers aren't going to be college graduates or rhodes scholars- they beat each other's brains in for a living from a very young age.

You're not going to find a prizefighter that'll be able to articulate themselves during interviews; they're a product of their environment and by the time they're in their 30's, they're usually punch drunk to put it nicely.

It's like that in boxing and UFC. If you're looking for someone that can be the key spokesperson for boxing, it's not going to be a boxer, rather someone from their management team (i.e. Shaefer, Arum, Dibella, etc.)

I don't disagree. My point was simply asking how much better it would be for the sport as a whole if a fighter with similar abilities had the behaviour and personality I describe. What would the benefits be?

Obviously. Certain people with certain qualities are just lacking in prestige ;)

I think for helping the sport, its more important that they're interesting and entertaining both out the ring and in the ring.

Mayweather is bad for aLOT of reasons. But he is quite entertaining in and out the ring. Even if he is a Dick, and i can't stand him. He will carry shows like 24/7

If Ward was the face of boxing i can't see him bringing many new fans. He's boring in interviews, and he's also involved in boring fights that will put 1st timers off.

But if you want the face of boxing to be a role model, then i agree some like Ward (minus the christianity)

I think somelike Alvarez, once his English improves could be a good face of boxing.

In the UFC Jon Jones is intelligent, handsome, and savagely brutal in the octagon. But he's widely hated

It takes an X factor to become an icon
