Anyone else think it's a shame the most famous and best fighter in the world . . .

That's because he is a dumb ass,the guy sounds like he has lived in Buckingham palace all his life when in reality he came from a poor Jamaican background and spent most if his youth living Peckham which is one of the roughest and poorest areas of South London.

The man has a few screws loose tbh, great fighter in his day though.

I wish that he was as articulate as Andre Ward, but I'm asking too much. He's just not a role model type of athlete. It's hard to just accept how brilliant he is in the ring and completely ignore what he does outside of it. If i were an upcoming boxing prospect, I'd definitely look up and modeling his style of fighting, but i'd look up to Andre Ward as far as how to conduct myself outside of the ring.

How far did Shane Mosley's friendly nice guy personality get him? Destroying people at light weight and some early success at welter before a doldrum in his career - even if he isn't that nice in person, he had that approachable friendly personality on stage, and while his articulation has decreased over time, it is clear that he never made as much as Oscar or Floyd. While time has proven that his talents are perhaps not quite as ATG, he was a force of nature at lightweight and made super easy work of tough non-elites like Collazo and Margarito well past his best. That second fight with Winky was very close.

Just bad luck? He would fight anyone and rematch them right away, too - and he had a nice persona in general. Yet he is going to have to fight probably until his health suffers more.

That good guy stuff doesn't work. Always better to have a villain as the face than a boring good guy.

Being ordinary outside of the ring doesn't put asses in seats. Look at Ward for example and the list could go on.

Mayweather consistently puts asses in seats and does very good PPV numbers. If that's not good for the sport then I don't know what is. Also like him or dislike him, you can't deny his entertainment value.

I don't think Shane is fighting because he needs the money I think he's fighting because he wants to,if he beats Cano convincingly I will say fair dues because Sugar Shane deserves a lot more respect than what he gets.People actually forget how good he was in his day and only remember him for his stinkers against Floyd and Manny. If he had of fought those two guys in his prime the results might have been different but that's another story.

I don't mind Floyd being the face of boxing based on his accomplishments, skills and abilities as a boxer. He puts in work to be at this level and deserves to sit atop the boxing world.

While I agree he's a complete knuckle head and a cornball ass *****.....There's no shame in what he does as a boxer when he's actually boxing. What he does outside the sport is absolutely shameful at times....how he comes off and the level of disrespect he spews is sad to see from a grown man with his level of success.

His outside life and his boxing life are separate....That's how I view them. I don't like Floyd...I don't like who Floyd wants or attempts to be. He's as phony as a 3 dollar bill....but as long as his outside life doesn't affect his ability to perform inside the ropes...I could care less what he does.

Everyone is different and we need dynamic personalities to infuse the sport with color. Fans come from all walks of life and appreciate different things so Floyd has a following based on his fake ass image....but most of his fans appreciate his craft. there are not many sensible folks who would ever be able to stomach Floyd's personality for obvious reasons.

You were expecting a professional boxer to be a Rhodes Scholar?

I fail to see how the OP's point has any relevance. Most boxers are ignorant/uneducated. That's why they box. They generally come from pretty shitty backgrounds and boxing is a way off the street and a way out of poverty. If you're using that brain of yours for complex thinking, getting punched in the face for a living isn't a good idea.

In other news, the ocean is wet. That's about as news worthy as the original post. Boxers aren't smart? Who knew.................................

People seem to be struggling to tell the difference between being well educated and being charismatic and likeable. When you're interviewed on a sports channel they're not going to ask you so solve maths problems - they're going to want you to talk about your sport, your career, your opponent etc. You don't have to be a genius to do that while not coming across a a defensive, borderline mentally ill man child.

You can even be the villain, be cocky and braggadocio and still be likeable.

You seem to be struggling with the idea that not everybody has the personality traits to pull that off. Sorry people don't fit into your neat little box of what you think they should behave like.

You're asking a professional fighter, to have "charismatic personality." Do you have any idea where most of these guys come from? Not exactly a nice place where a good attitude and a "charismatic personality" gets you anywhere.

Disappointing to see so many men concerned with how likable another man is. It's boxing, guys. Leave this banter for your down-low parties.

**** me. That's not what I'm saying at all.

I'm not asking anyone to behave like that. Im staring a discussion about the benefits to the wider sport if its chief star were to have those attributes.

Judging by your idea of what a pro fighter must be like I'm starting to wonder if you might be one.
