Yeah but even Collins will know that he won't be given much credit for it even if he wins. Jones hasn't exactly weathered as well as Hopkins so it'll be seen as two old geezers who should know better. Maybe Collins just wants some kind of boxing buzz again, but then again I don't suppose he made proper mega money in his career did he? And a of lot investments have gone pear shaped in Ireland lately.

 

It will be seen as a farce, bad for boxing and undignified.

Also no TV company will pick this up and ticket sales (if in Dublin) will be totally shite.

Steve must be deluding himself if he thinks a) this will make ANY money and b) that if there is money, it will be enough to tempt Roy).

 

Yeah I think Collins knows what way this fight will be perceived in the UK and the Sates. Jones has been a visitor to Russia of late and I think that article mentioned Collins had said the soviet bloc and Middle East were being looked at.

 

I think, he thinks, if others can do it then so can I.

I believe he will look to Hopkins if he beats Jones and in a second 'quick' fight beat a noted younger man, then why not?

Boxing has become all Smoke & Mirrors anyway, and is the second biggest sideshow in sport next to pro wrestling.

All of this JUST to fight in a fight that was relevant 20 YEARS AGO. However declined Roy Jones Jr maybe, he is still fighting and has been fighting for that 16 years duration Steve Collins has been out. This is a thoughtless and insecure decision to give this man a license to fight again. Not only is it a disgrace to the sport itself, but they have shown to be willing to put Steve Collins' health at risk by giving him a license to fight again.

....and they supposedly run **** in this country. :-(

Perhaps the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will happen afterall, when they are both grandads and been retired for 40 years?

This is just an insult to the sport itself to allow 48 year olds back in the sport that have been retired for nearly 20 years. Its bringing the sport into disrepute. Beyond the pale.

I'd have no problems whatsoever if it was just a fun ting for charity or something. But a real fight?

Don't come with the Hopkins, Holyfield or Foreman ****.....both of those continued to fight, Foreman had a 10 year break between 77 and 87 and went on to have another 34 fights, but this is a man who has not fought in 16 years coming back for what, one fight? Against someone who aint been out, however declined you say he is, Jones Jr is STILL active.

Well it doesn't mater, if he got it from Timbuktu, the BBBofC should step in.

This aint a 30 year old active David Haye getting a license from elsewhere. This is a 48 year old man who aint fought in 16 years. If he got a license from another country, it is the BBofC's duty to step in as the board of Britain. If they let this go ahead, then they condone this behavior and are just as accountable.
