We're talking bums-on-seats here, not money made per fight, PPV buys, etc. ONLY number of tickets sold in the arena/stadium, please!

I'm thinking we need to take a weighted average of the fighter's last couple of fights in his backyard at the very least and then guesstimate. The fighter in question needs to head the bill, obviously. It's not going to be precise, but should still give us a good indication of how much of a draw that fighter is.

If you have precise numbers, post them with a reference. If you only have approx numbers, try to back it up. If the fighter fights in Las Vegas, say, and Las Vegas is not his home town, well, I guess we have to go with LV.

If the fighter in question heading the bill is in fact co-heading the bill, we have to be careful.

I'll use Pascal as an example:-

vs. Hopkins 1: 17,750 - Canadian attendance record with Dawson vs. Diaconu on the undercard
    vs. Hopkins 2: 17,560

However, against someone who wasn't a draw himself, Pascal only did:-
vs. Kuziemski: 6,100 (but it was a non-title fight, it was only a 10-rounder, and Pascal was coming back from injury and a lay-off)

    vs. Dawson: 8,100

So how should we weight these numbers? Despite Pascal getting better and better and drawing more and more fans, in a tune-up against Kuziemski, he only drew 6k. So, against a non-draw, with a belt on the line, could Pascal draw more than 10k? Unlikely.

So, for me, at least, his drawing power is in the region of 8-10k. However, against Froch, right now, I think Pascal could sell as much as 18,000.

Compare that with Bute, for example.

    vs. Johnson: 15,306
vs. Grachev: 10,122 (after his devastating loss; against a non-name, with no belt on the line)
    vs. Magee: 12,219 (before Froch)

    Bute's record: vs Andrade 2: 16,473
    vs Andrade 1: 16,300

Could Bute on his own, against a non-draw, with a belt on the line, draw more than 12k? Unlikely.

So, for me, Bute's drawing power is in the region of 10-12k. However, against Froch, right now, I think Bute could sell as much as 18,000.

When two home-town draws meet, the numbers can be good:-

    Diaconu vs. Pascal 1: 13,569

Pascal vs. Bute ??? They had sold over 15,000 a week ago and they think this one will sell out at around 20-22k.

    1.Floyd
    2.Pac
Those two are obvious. After them I would guess.

    3.Cotto
    4.Marquez
    5.Chavez Jr.
    6.Canelo
    7.Khan
    8.Wlad
    9.Vitali
    10.Zou

I may be way off with 5-10. I'm just guessing. I'll be really interested in seeing the final list, though, if you are able to finish it.

How much do you think he could draw? 40-50k? Is it practical to try to stage the fight in a stadium and look to sell out all seats anymore, in the days of HDTV?

Anyway, for the purposes of this thread, this guy is irrelevant. How much has he so far sold? Exactly.

Only if they keep him fighting bums. Once he steps up he's going to lose.

OK, this is exactly what I don't want for this thread, no offense.

I want the number of tickets actually sold so far, recently, not potential numbers.

Yeah, Pacquiao could probably sell 100k tickets back home, but he hasn't so far, has he? So... let's talk numbers actually sold.

How many tickets has Floyd sold in his last 2 fights? How about Pacquiao?

So what happens when a fighter fights at the MGM Grand and gets a smaller crowd than a stadium but generates twice the gate revenue

Bums on seats means tickets sold in the arena, not PPVs sold. Let's look at tickets sold only, for this one, please! :good

So you're focusing on the tickets sold rather than TV viewers? That doesn't determine how big of a draw someone is.

Yap! Can you look up the numbers for me, please? I'm recalling 20k, but what other numbers did he make against lesser fighters?

ps. Wlad/Vitali should be top of the list, with 40-50k, right? What are the precise numbers?

Canelo/trout have sold over 35,000 tickets so far if that helps. They start at 10 dollars per ticket, but I guess that doesn't matter under this criteria
