Golden Boy has Showtime, Fox Sports, NBC, CBS, ESPN and Telefutura to highlight their talent they do not need HBO. And I love HBO, Realtime, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Vice (new show, must see), VEEP....etc But Showtime will emerge as the best boxing network in 1 to 2 years time.
come on..... Broner vs overmatched opponent and B-hop holdfests... GBP was bringing their whole stable to Showtime, there was nothing for HBO to do... And within 2 years, GBP come begging to get HBO dates, mark my words..
GB is going to win what? :huh And why would i be mad? atsch FFS nallege....can you at least TRY to make sense?
HBO does have way more viewers, so all the promoters want their fighters to be at HBO... You can compare GPB to TR stable.. But Sergio, Froch, Bute, Kessler, Pascall, GGG, Klits, Haye, Stevenson, Dawson and all up and coming international fighters are in HBO's pool too.. And stars get born on HBO, not on Showtime.. And you'll probably also will see lots of fighters leaving GBP... it's a matter of time, before GBP's stable is extremely small...
Do you realize how rich Richard Schaefer is? You are praying Golden Boys stable gets small, they just signed a deal with Fox for 26 cards and Canelo and Broner are the money guys.
I am sure that ESPN or NBC don't have them blacklisted. I think NBC is Kathy Duva (Main Events) so you might be right there but they can still work with ESPN.
At some point in time Oscar will have a fight he feels is worth more than Showtime is willing to pay. It might be next week, it might be next year, it might be ten years from now but it will happen. The question is "does HBO run out of programming first?"
Oscar/Schaefer thought they could have Show to themselves and still get good HBO slots/money. They gambled and lost this hand. Show does not have the pockets HBO does. The guys selling PPV's won't hurt but the rest will. Show has stumbled and sputtered trying to get traction in boxing to match HBO. People thinking Show/CBS are going to dump piles of money into boxing? Pipe dream. Remember when they wanted to ride Jermain Taylor's comeback and 'own' the 168 division? They have been picking their spots and it hasn't seemed to be that productive for them so far. 168 had a clear winner and where did he go as soon as he could? Boxing would have to make a strong comeback in the states for this strategy to pay off. I just don't see that happening.
