How would you feel if Calzaghe....

His three(twenty more if you count their alts) loyal fans would finally die out of excitement.

 

That's not even a real record...

 

Nobody who looks at video of Joe boxing will ever think he's GOAT.

 

It would take some amazing editing. His awkward arm angles, lack of true KO power, and general impression make him look like a pud. Not visually appealing and not the typical impression of "athletic."

At least with a guy like Wlad you can skip the 9 rounds of pawing and grabbing and just show the KO. Casuals want a KO.

Plus, the Joe Cal KO Specialist videos already show a great portrait of who he really is.

 

Calzaghe's record is filled with enough bums as it is, why come back and makes things even worse?

 

Calzaghe had an effective style that worked for him well, but it is anything but highlight reel material.. It was quite ugly at times, and looked down right awkward when he would show boat.

Any truly good highlight reel, has some spectacular KOs. I am not sure Joe has put someone down that couldn't get up... And most of his "knockouts" would just confuse a casual as to why in hell the fight was stopped when the other guy is still standing there fighting and doesn't appear to even be stunned.

A Calzaghe highlight reel would just make a casual want to go watch some MMA.

 

I'm obviously not alone. Joe was not a thing of beauty in the ring.

 

Joe's style was ugly, but there was a lot of subtle brilliance in what he did, his footwork, upper body movement and use of angles was great

Certainly no highlight reel fighter though, guys like Tyson and Pacquiao are highlight reel fighters

 

If you wan't to see a good highlight reel, watch a prime RJJ highlight reel.. Calzaghe's own son did, and was convinced Roy was the GOAT after watching it.. or at least thought he would kill his dad.

 

Jones has some great highlight videos on youtube! Gorilla productions did a really good video on Jones.

 

He's only 41, hasn't taken much punishment and retired at what, 37?

It's an absolute joke that he retired when he did. Didn't fight anybody from the generation previous when they were on the up, didn't fight anyone from the generation after.

 

I'm glad you can see my point. It would be easier to convince a casual that Wlad is GOAT by showing his KO's than any reel of Joe Cal.

As much as I like Andre Ward, a highlight reel of his won't convince any casuals either. Sheer athleticism and knockouts are what provide broad appeal.
