Jones is the Greatest LHW Ever. His resume already is the best. He has beaten the best competition (at LHW) and done so the most convincingly. He has beaten 5 straight former UFC champs, and done so making it look easy with barely losing a round.

And please don't pretend that all these fighters are washed up or over the hill. Some are not at their prime, but are no where near "washed up"

Rua was coming off a win over Machida, possibly his best win of his career.

Jackson was probably the most past his prime, but was still coming off two wins over Hamill and Machida

Rashad had looked awesome in his 3 fights leading up to Jones against Rashad/Ortiz/Davis

Machida was coming off his unbelievable performance against Couture

Belfort, well, is Belfort. He is still extremely dangerous for any fighter at 185 and 205. And he hadn't lost to anybody not named Anderson Silva since 2006.

Also, when he beat Bader, Bader was very highly esteemed by many fans and was coming off some big wins.

Liddel was fighting Renato Sobral and Vernon White, Jeremy Horn during his time atop the UFC. Tito Ortiz, is no where near as talented as the fighters on Jones's resume.
5 years into Shogun's career he was tapped out by Forrest Griffin, then proceeded to go on a 5-5 run in the UFC.

How are these guys "greater" than Jon Jones?

Let go of the past. This reminds me of when fans wouldn't let go of Hughes as the #1 WW of all time for FAR TOO LONG. It had become almost comical to rate him over GSP, and yet some still did.

Would most agree that on a H2H basis, Jones is the GOAT at LHW?

What you are saying is not wrong! but its an unfair comparison, the sport is different now, it has evolved, and yes P4P all contenders AND CHAMPIONS are better fighters than yester year.

But a reign as champion in any era is a reign as champion, that man still held "the Title" for a selected period of time.

Jon Jones would not have been as good Jon Jones if he began training in AKA with BJ Penn and Frank Shamrock in 2001, the methodology of developing a fighter in the gym is still changing on a weekly / monthly basis in MMA, there are proven methods but the goal posts keep changing!

Fighters are being developed in a different way now, yesterdays champions did not have that luxury, it was basic back then, some people will argue that makes it more impressive what these guys were doing then.

Chuck Liddell claims to have not worked out what style of fighter he was until he fought Vitor Belfort, BJ Penn only ever boxed his friends on his porch as a kid and was knocking people out on pure instinct!

I agree that Jones is a completely different level of fighter than any of us have ever seen at 205, but thats because he's a product of a new era in the sport, as are most of the guys he'll be fighting; Gustaffson, Davis, Cormier (to a degree) and the likes.

I think he's one of these guys who watched PRIDE and figures that makes him a "real" MMA fan, as opposed to those who never watched PRIDE because it never appeared on our radars. :conf

Admittedly I am somewhat dickish sometimes towards the Shogun/PRIDE jockriders, but that's because they're ridiculous and hypocritical. They wank on about how awesome the pageantry of PRIDE was, then in the next sentence they **** on the UFC for its "WWE" vibe. Like PRIDE didn't take half its playbook from Japanese pro wrestling. :patsch

Two things I don't like are hypocrites and hipsters. Posters who do nothing but ***** and cry and whine about the UFC taking the sport to new levels of athletic competition and mainstream success fit both these categories. Sometimes I yell at these posters for that, no doubt oftentimes in an obnoxious manner. :conf :good

    :hat

You are really asking the question ?

The guy bumped an almost 3 years old thread just to pick on PRIDE FC and Shogun fan 'cause he didn't have **** to do.

Like he never had argument on this subject ad nauseum.

On top of that is he prolly the king of double standard here, I can't stand that.

Yeah im asking. Seems whenever the guy posts the same old posters crop up again and again to give him ****

The mma section has been its usual sloth like self - why shouldnt someone ask that question now? Its totally pertinent

And i dont see that double standards thing like you do. Never asked him, but im 100% convinced Haggis has the utmost respect for a non UFC fighter in Fedor

You didn't understood what I meant....

The double standards part isn't about this specific thread, but in Haggis attitude in general.

It's not about asking the question now, it's about him having time to waste, go to page 40 something of the MMA section, bumping old thread just to try to pick some kind of fight with other people to entertain him, nothing more, nothing less.

EDIT: 40 something my ass, just went on page 51, thread date from 2012....so yeah, alot of ****in time to waste

and why shouldnt he? this place has hardly been buzzing with activity lately has it?

if hes trawling through ancient threads, doesnt that say hes dong what he can to get himself familiar with MMA history?

seems you and a few others have your mind set that he's a Dana ball licker, and a Pride hater. thats laughably wrong man

hes one of the very very few guys on here who take the time to make long posts and ask big questions. he's a quality poster

    Kick ass haggis :thumbsup
