Is Shogun the best LHW in mma history ?

Here's my original post in this thread.

Subsequently the only thing I said about Shogun was that I liked him, and that I'm aware I haven't seen the best night of his career.

Oh yeah, and I said that PRIDE-era Wandy appears to me to be heavily roided, aaaaaand......... that's it. :-(

Cmon man you've been here for more then 10 years, you know how people are and how they react, you know very well that you might have caught someone with this and it didn't worked. You still had attention after all so your objective has been achieved.

No it's a ****ing ghost town, and I reckon that a lot of that is because many of the established regulars are just snotty bitches. Stoo just wants to troll 95% of the time, scurla is an insufferably arrogant ******* who's living 10 years in the past, and a handful of others make the forum a needlessly infantile, unpleasant place to try to have a good discussion. :-(

Yeah, in the absence of new threads I like to go back and see what the general consensus was for years past. For example, I was surprised that Rampage was generally regarded as the favourite against Rashad. :conf

I talk my fair share of **** on PRIDE, but it basically comes down to a handful of things.

1) I think a ring is vastly inferior to a cage for MMA. Each to their own.

2) Don't like stomps and soccer kicks. Again, each to their own.

3) Don't like the blatant corruption of the org.

4) And most of all, I can't stand hypocrites who pick at any little thing Zuffa does while ignoring ALL of PRIDE's many glaring, ridiculous faults. How many threads has scurla started to whine about disclosed UFC fighter pay for an event, when all of us know that disclosed pay essentially means nothing? Yet he says nothing about referees openly favouring certain fighters, lack of medical care for fighters, Yakuza corruption, referees wearing earpieces, FIXED FIGHTS? Can you imagine the **** scurla would talk if Herb Dean was wearing an earpiece to take in-fight instructions from Dana or Lorenzo? But if it happened in PRIDE, it's fine. :-(

So that annoys me, and I talk **** about the blatant hypocracy. And I love what the UFC has done for the sport. I love that it's all over my TV and that when the fights are on, I can invite 5 friends over who I've gotten into the sport in the last year or two. All of whom have gotten right into it and become fans of certain fighters because, for the first time ever, it's there and easy to follow. I don't love EVERYTHING Zuffa does, but when they do something I disagree with I'll talk **** on that too. :conf

Maybe to up my cred on here I need to respond to every post with "", or a picture of a dog shitting, or perhaps I'll get real MMA cred by getting a cringeworthy UFC tattoo for no reason. Maybe that will help me be a better poster on this subforum.

Well admittedly I did launch into a longwinded rant a couple of posts ago, after a half-dozen or more posts of him whining for no reason.

Here's a question. If Jones had tapped to the Vitor armbar and lost a shocking first-round upset by submission, how much of a hit would his standing have instantly taken?

And, by extension, how much of a boost does his standing get based off the fact that we now know that Jones is tough as hell and isn't just a Tyson-esque frontrunner who can't overcome adversity? :blood

Actually it was about Jones. Clearly about Jones. In fact, the only reference to Shogun was "Jones wasn't even mentioned as a potential opponent for Shogun." Other than that, the post was merely a commentary on just how meteoric Jones' rise has been, as shown by his lack of mention 3 years ago in a thread that would probably now be "Is Shogun or Jones the best LHW in MMA history?"

What's an edgy subject? Shogun, and the fact that he's a fighter who can and does lose fights?

I guess my mistake was giving you the courtesy of an honest, reasonable reply. Go back and look - I explained both why I bumped the thread and what I think of the OP's question, and in an entirely civil, respectful tone.

Anyway, are you done passive-aggressively bitching at me? Do you have anything to contribute to the discussion? Feel free to join an MMA conversation if you wish. Or if you just want us to verbally slap-fight like little girls - again - you can **** off. :good

To answer your previous question about Jones in a Shogun thread :roll:

At least for me, if Vitor had broken Jones arm or made him tapped wouldn't have change my opinion of the guy has a fighter.

It's MMA, anything can happen that's why I love the sport.

Can you imagine what were the odd for a submission win in Vitor favor at the bookies ?


I think people are judging loses to hard most of the time.
