Is Shogun the best LHW in mma history ?

I don't believe this comment warranted the **** storm that followed. Like he said, this thread had nothing to do with Pride FC until a few members took it that way. I enjoy Pride FC as much as the next guy, but don't think I'm some ****ing Wiz either whose got to get nasty when JJ is mentioned. If you want to talk Pride then Haggis is going to tell you how he feels, but he didn't bring this on. All this back and forth is exhausting, and exhausting to watch unfold. The discussion couldn't even continue some took it the wrong way... It disappoints me.

It is "unbelievable" Haggis, and it's nice to see a thread like this again!

I agree, over the past few weeks the ignorance on here has been taken to the max. It's like a schoolyard. I can't jump into discussions anymore because I'd be posting in the middle of a pissing contest. Very disappointing that this place can be turned upside down, and when you are talking about new topics a select few wanna get confrontational.

You see Liddell', Couture', and Wandy's names in the OP. Dude come on, drop the bitchy attitude, and have a discussion here. I don't care if a discussion involving Shogun has your nuts on edge or not, stop posting smileys with a roll of the eyes and grow up. Are you a teenager or what? The other day I saw stoo post an Ace of Base video in a thread about JJ and Cain Velasquez.... WTF?

Jones is number one imo and I don't like te guy. Even mw Grand Prix shogun doesn't beat him he's just outgunned.

I'm not even a Shogun fan or a Pride FC nuthugger....I don't know how many time I already said this...I honestly think that Haggis wanted to pick fight with those people, it's that simple.

I agree. JJ is the best LHW we've seen thus far. He has it all, and the heads of a few of the top LHWs too. Fedor was from another era like Wandy too, but at his best I believe he handles the UFC Champ. I just can't say the same about Wandy, Chuck or anyone else. Chuck couldn't get past Rampage, Couture couldn't top Liddell and Shogun couldn't hold up. Going 5-5 is on his resume too. Let's not ignore that and these last couple of years. A resume is the big picture, not just the days in Pride and way back when. A lot of you go wrong when you ignore a fighter's whole career.

If your the best H2H then you are the best, period. Great fighters on a resume are just icing on the cake. Let's be real, none of these LHWs put on a run like Fedor did.

Maybe you all are right about him and I was making it personal just now too. But, know that it's just not worth it sometimes. Haggis is gonna Haggis and stoo is gonna troll. Nothing wrong with disagreeing with each other. This will be one of the last times I get nasty on here... I'll just sit back and watch this **** unfold, but Haggis gave himself away when he admitted to trolling "nuthuggers" and once again told us how he really feels about Pride FC. Yeah I got you man, TBH I'm kinda tired of all this **** too, not because it ruins the MMA section of ESB but because it pissed me off sometimes. My new year resolution was to be more zen like this year, I can almost do it in my everyday life, seems I lose control on the internet.

I know that since English isn't my main language from time to time I have some difficulty to express myself and to be perfectly honest too I have to admit I can really be stuborn from time to time, but I least when I'm wrong I've got no problem whatsoever admitting it. And I get pissed off when I can't get my point across.


But yeah, **** this thread, I'm out for work.

Still can't wait for the TUF finale tomorow though*.

On a side note, poeple can call me Pride Nuthugger for all I care, I don't feel concerned one bit

 

^^I lose control too sometimes, and you are big enough to admit things. Can't say the same about myself. I believe when you and I go at it it's really over a bunch of "nothing" . Maybe we are a lot alike since a lot of those discussions go nowhere. I don't have much else to say in here, but I feel that this turned out well in the end.

I would like to take a lot of this back and give Wandy the respect he deserves. Maybe I need more time, but I'm not ready to rank JJ until he leaves the division :!:. Some of us can, but I shouldn't :!:.

I bumped this thread because I thought it was interesting. Nothing more or less. Didn't talk **** on anybody in the post I made either.

What happens? First thing that happens is Stoo posts a one-word reply calling me a dick. Winfella posts a good comment. Then two more one-line posts of Stoo trolling me. You make your first appearance with a one-line post calling me a troll. I reply with a respectful clarification of my stance on the LHW ATGs, in which I praise Shogun. You give me a sarcastic one-line response with a rolling-eye emoticon.

So that's two posts from me, in which I say nothing negative to or about anybody, and try to have a serious discussion.

Five posts from you and Stoo. Every one of them a one-liner made purely to be a dick to me, and making zero attempt to have a decent conversation. So who's picking a fight? Who's being a childish troll? :blood

Aside from that, I'm sick of this stupid infantile bull**** dragging the forum down too. :-(

Sure, I ***** at PRIDE nuthuggers sometimes. But sometimes. Not ALL the time. And you can see for yourself how it took half a dozen bitchy, trolling comments or more for me to respond in kind. Before that I was clearly trying to have a serious, civil discussion about Jones' rise into the ATG standings. :good

With the bolded, it's like a lot of MMA fans are like guys who put Tyson as the #1 HW of all time because they only take his career up to the Douglas fight and ignore the rest. But that's not how it works. You can't judge a fighter on his best night, because EVERY ATG looks invincible on his best 3-4 nights.

It seems that with some guys, there's a cutoff point halfway through their careers where, for whatever reason, they're considered shot and any losses after that don't even count against them. But any wins they manage to pick up are further confirmation of their greatness. :conf

Some guys just seem to get a pass for every bad performance, while others don't. Personally, I think that if you're healthy enough to make the choice to get into the cage and fight, then whatever happens counts on your resume. GSP was both sick and injured on the night of the Diaz fight and it showed, but he won anyway so nobody gives a ****. If he had lost, it would have counted against him. :good

Anyway, the thing about Jones that the others can't match is his physical gifts. Wandy, Chuck, Shogun, they're just regular LHW guys with great skills honed over years.

Jones is an enormous monster who naturally knows how to use his freakish proportions, and he is as dominant (more dominant?) than any of them while having (at best) half the experience that any of the others had when they were wearing the belt.
