Like Hozumi Hasegawa, Rigo loves the flicking jab - hard left hand combination that put many opponents down, but both jabs are flawed cause neither sticks it hard in the opponents face but rather paw with it to distract them as they come in so they can follow-up with the power left.

Rigo paws with the jab, turn to avoid the right and lands a hard left to the body while hands-wise he's quite open.

Here he also paws with the jab after which his right is quite low, and follows up with a hard left to the chin

Donaire, like Fernando Montiel however loves fighting a counter-puncher, because they can

with a shock overhand left. Other than ability and accuracy, this requires them to leave the gap for the opponent, risking to get hit in the process, but reap the rewards by catching the skilled foes completely off-guard.

Donaire is so advanced with the shock hook that he even had Montiel fooled, who here feints with the left but throws a hard right instead, expecting Nonito to drop his guard, which he does, but already knowing what's coming and timing it with the shock left hand. The right catches the top of Donaire's head, which is the risk he's taking, but he's already moving with the punch and delivers the blow Cochulito never sees coming.

Of course Rigondeaux is a lefty, but like Hasewaga, his jab is more distracting than destructing. So as Huzumi paws with the jab, expecting to stop Montiel in his tracks and throw his money left hand, Cochulito already knows he just needs to stick with the hard left, a punch Hozumi never sees coming, and despite HH's left catching him, he has the Japanese shaken for the finishing combo.

Donaire's left is so dangerous against the southpaw, witnessed in the Darchinyan knockout where Vic also pawed with the jab and got hit by the shock hook while looking to land the left, that it had Nishioka's left scared. Will Rigondeaux respect the shock hook and fight defensively for the points loss, or will the excellent counter-puncher in him go for the right-left combo and get knocked out by Donaire left?

A straight punch is faster than a hooking one, Rigo's gonna be landing those lefts all night

The lazy jab can be a liability, but IMO the left hook will be harder to land on Rigondeaux because he doesn't always reach in with it. It is his one glaring weakness though. I think Donaire might try to trigger a right hook and land a straight right down the middle. Or if Donaire takes a back step and makes Rigo reach with the straight, then he can catch him with the left pulling back.

The lazy jab and rehearsed punches are a concern, but lets remember that when Rigo thrown them in the past he's been in control of the situation, he's an extremely clever fighter. I'd be surprised if he threw many lazy punches tonight, because he knows fine well the left hook will be coming over the top of it. He respects Donaire, he didn't respect most of his past opponents

Now I wouldn't be surprised if he threw a few of the rehearsed punches, but not lazily, rather with an intention of pulling Donaire into a counter that Rigondeaux can himself counter off. Of course Donaire is quick and accurate enough to even if Rigo thinks he's in control to land something he doesn't see.

It's such an interesting fight, it comes down to me can Rigondeaux take Donaire power shots without going into his shell. If he can i think he wins. For a prediction, i don't think he can take it, and Donaire will catch up to Rigo as some point tonight

    Good breakdown,..

But rigo keeps his head a lil down` and tucked compared to the chino and montiel who had there chin straight up in the air to be hit.

All i know is that its destiny for rigo to win this.
    I cant wait.

I think Nonito has a better chance with the right hand counter ala Nishioka. I don't think Nonito even planned to throw the right at the time, it was just reflex.

The thing is, everyone that knows anything about boxing will assume Rigo is open to that shot from Donaire (including his trainer), I mean lots and lots of people have brought it up on here.

Given his experience it wouldn't surprise me at all if we something a bit different from him tonight. I'm more excited about this than I have been about a boxing match for a long time.
