He gets a free pass this time because he was only 11-0 and he was fighting the fighter of the year 2012 and (according to many) the best fighter in the world pound-for-pound.

He wasn't very aggressive, but he is the only man to ever make Donaire's face look like a pizza pie.

I am also not a big fan of the Floyd/Sergio style because it's mainly defense. But I LOVE this style when the fighter takes on an opponent who's supposed to be the best thing in boxing, and then methodically dismantles him.

Floyd never took on a really dangerous opponent (like Antonio Margarito or Paul Williams) because he is afraid to lose his "0". And Sergio Martinez has been ducking live bodies all his life (except for Williams and Margarito, who beat him). Sergio is now avoiding Golovkin like the plague, choosing to fight yet another unknown British gatekeeper.

Can we at least give Rigo credit for taking such a difficult opponent? Donaire was the most feared man on the planet. Some people might not want to give Rigo credit now, but a few years from now you'll realise that this is a HUGE win.

    Agreed.

Boxing is about hitting and NOT getting hit.

I love a good brawl, but I DON'T want every fight to be like rock em sock em robots. Chess matches like what Rigo did was great to see. He was slipping and ducking and dodging so much I bet Sweet Pea would be proud.

    Just a damn good boxer...boxing.

I saw Donaire backing up plenty of times in this fight and Rigo stalking.

Yet Donaire face was busted up and was keeping his eye from falling out in the 12th. But Rigo just ran. Rigo boxed Nonito's ears off! That was boxing! what a great fight!!!!

What the hell are you doing in a boxing forum?

He did run, it was part of his damn strategy. If you can't see that he ran then you're blind. Sure he landed a few shots, but in the end I can count the power punches landed by both fighters on one hand. Rigo just looked better moving backwards and keeping the range than Donaire did moving forward. The reason is Donaire had a very low % of total thrown landed and while Rigo also didn't land much he was more accurate. Thats always how he was going to win, and he did what he needed to do.

Still say Donaire didn't look like he usually does he lacked that killer instinct. Maybe he really was injured as mentioned in the post fight.

Nah, I'd rather stick around and give you an education in boxing in the hope of one day you waking up and knowing what real boxing is. If you want a brawl, watch UFC, we also have brawls in boxing, but that's why it is so great, so many styles that mix and match.

For me, nothing could be more exciting than what was on display tonight. Now it's your turn to reply with an insult.

that's their gameplan. get on the defensive and let donaire get frustrated and leave his own gameplan. his footwork was great and makes donaire's signature left hook useless.

it's frustrating to watch donaire too because he was just there looking for the KO all the time, while he doesnt at least put up a gameplan to use his right hand after rigo ducks and avoids his left hook. no combos, just one punch. that's why we see very low punch stats tonight.

You are missing the entire point casual. Boxing is a science, an art. Any true boxing fan loves this fight.

Rigo showed it all. Great footwork, timing, taking away angles, feints and much more. It was a showcase of skills tonight. Simple as that. He was teaching boxing tonight and you got an F in the class bc you don't like how the teacher taught so you failed to learn. Step your game up!
