    Pac - Jmm 1.

Was just discussing this in the general so thought I'd watch it again.

Had it 7-5 to jmm so Pac wins by 1 point. Rounds 2, 8, 9 were all very close i think and could legitimately be argued either way. Last time i scored this i had it 8-4 jmm so Marquez won by 1 point. All it takes is to see one of those rounds even and a draw is fair.

I can live with the draw result jmm had a huge mountain to climb after that first round and he did so greatly but starting so slow against a basically one dimensional opponent almost proved costly, perhaps he isn't quite the h2h beast i once argued. Pac just spammed the left hand and mostly jmm made him look foolish but enough times the left got through. Great fight.

    Great great fight.

Damn, Holly Mims' record is really deceptive.

    A really skillful fighter.

Good counterpuncher, feints, body movement, sneaky right hand.

Even his power looks better than his record would suggest.

Gave Carter and Archer (Archer especially) some tough fights.

Wonder how his fight with LMR looked like - was it close too?

    John Conteh W15 Jorge Ahumada

I had this 9-5-1 for Conteh. It was pretty close through 10. But Conteh seemed to take a little starch out of Ahumada down the stretch. I found that impressive. I found Conteh's jab to be better in subsequent fights. It's a shame with Conteh that the window where experience meshed with physical prime seemed to be short (if at all). He was a very talented and tough fighter. Ahumada needed some more head and upper body movement to execute his gameplan IMO. He's a personal favorite of mine, but he didn't really have a plan B.

    Howard Davis W10 Norman Goins

Very good fight. I've seen Davis' desire questioned at times, but he's had some entertaining fights. His problem, in my estimation is that he generally lacked the physical strength of his opponents and he wasn't doing anything exception defensively other than a great set of wheels. Goins fought a nice fight and possibly deserved the decision. I had it 94-93 Davis. Davis was the Olympic hero and the scorecards were absurdly in his favor.

    Yeah it was.

    My card for it:

Luis Rodriguez vs. Holly Mims: 97-96 Rodriguez
    Mims: 1,8 and 9.
    Rodriguez: 3,4,5 and 6.
    Rounds 2,7 and 10 even.

For some reason I felt Joey Archer clearly beat Mims (probably because I'm a big fan of Archer's). I thought Mims' fights with Rodriguez and Giardello were closer, and they're hardly ever pegged as robberies the way Mims-Archer is...

You know who beat up Joey Archer. Hint: his first name is Emile, his last name is Griffith.

will disagree with everything you just said.:D

I thought Mims-Archer was very close - personally, I liked Mims.

    Have you seen Griffith-Mims, S_S?

I know it's a rhetorical question but was it close too?

No, it was very close, but then again LMR was taking it at short notice (was supposed to be Archer rematch) against one of the wiliest operators of his time.

Watching Ruben Olivares vs Chucho Castillo I. Good gritty fight, shows great technical skill too. Olivares is underrated IMO. He's an all time great for sure

Had Griffith with a three point edge in that one. Emile pretty much had his way in the middle rounds, but Mims was spirited throughout as he always was...

I thought Nonito would win this one. A year or so ago I was certain Rigo' had the wrong style for Donaire. As I've said to you many times he cannot fight off the front foot. However, like many it seemed getting stunned by Marroquin made me think that at some point Nonito would time Rigo' when he was firing off and blast him.

Even when he did it Rigo' seemed alright and finished stronger (only a 10-9 round to Nonito IMO)

Brilliant performance. As a fan way before he turned pro' I'm overjoyed.

It was a quality performance making someone so quick miss so frequently.

I actually bet on rigo cos I thought the odds were too good considering his skill level, I saw it as near 50/50 and I got just over 2-1 so I whacked 60 on and got £170 back. Good times.

Donaire looked helpless at times he can't really cut the ring off, he can't throw whilst he's moving and he can't work openings.

I guess I'm a sucker for hype though, speaking of which, I don't think there's anyone in sbw history I'd favour over Rigo:lol:
