Who honestly cares? If he wants to be considered Irish and feels more connected to Ireland, so be it. It's his identity after all

At the end of day it doesn't take a genius to see what Fury / Mick have done.

They tried to promote him in Manchester but for whatever reason he couldn't even sell out leisure centre's so they've now gone down the Irish route to try & sell tickets & break America.

If it works then good luck to them

Good point that actually mate, didn't think of that. Fury fought in the Trafford centre for one fight and the only people who were there were people who were doing some evening shopping, no boxing fans.

Mancunians don't seem to have got behind Fury the same way Liverpudlians have got behind Price, maybe it is because of the traveller roots. Perhaps the Irish angle is the best way to go after all. Still, I personally don't agree with the "I'm Irish, not English" mindset.

Expect to see a picture of Tyson dumping his Man Utd shirt in the bin this week.

What's having Irish heritage got to do with anything?

People who are born in this country, raised here, nurtured here, educated here, use our healthcare when they get sick, send their children to our schools, marry our women, take our citizenship and all it's benefits, use our infrastructure, and call themselves British when it suits them, suddenly come out and proclaim that they have absolutely no loyalty to Britain whatsoever and instead make a big effort to identify themselves as being something else entirely.

It's not about "respecting your heritage," it's pure hypocrisy of the highest order and I don't know why some people think it's acceptable. Fury is the biggest hypocrite in boxing for a number of reasons, not least this. The guy talks about honour and respect, but has no gentlemanly qualities whatsoever, he's no understanding of those concepts which he has hijacked.

People can be proud of their heritage, and if they want to be Irish then that's fine, they should represent Ireland fully, and make a life for themselves there. But you can't have it both ways. If Britain isn't for you, then go elsewhere. Don't be a hypocrite and bite the hand that feeds you, whilst hoping nobody is sharp enough to notice your treachery.

Why the **** would I know the intricate demographics of New York City?

It's also slightly odd how a nation of less than 5 million people can generate so many "Irish" people worldwide. Including, at least several hundred thousand people in NY, apparently.

To be fair, Haroon Khan is clearly a future pound-for-pound king, so we will make an exception for him. I just hope he throws some of the glory our way.

It's pretty obvious that they've chosen to do this after seeing Macklin have some success playing the Irishman in New York. People need to remember that America is a relatively new country that is entirely based on immigration other than the native americans, Americans are also widely regarded as ignorant and are generally unpopular with the rest of the world after invading countless countries to enforce a capitalist ideology on people. None of them WANT to be American they all have to be from somewhere else, I met dozens of people in NYC and not a single one claimed to be American. They were all from somewhere else, even a blonde girl that looked swedish claimed to be Colombian through a thick american accent. Over there you don't NEED to be particularly ethnically pure so Fury living across the sea from Ireland, being a traveller and having Irish roots is far more ethnic identity than any of the "Irish" people New York will ever have so they'll accept Fury with open arms.

I have Italian and Irish and Welsh blood but don't consider myself anything other than a Londoner and personally don't identify with those roots at all. When I go to any of those countries they typically shun me as an Englishman and that's where I feel most comfortable so it's an easy decision. Having said that, if Fury genuinely feels differently then so be it, I'm not offended by it. It's not like it's the first time someone in sport has claimed a nationality to suit their career, didn't Vinnie Jones, the well known Welshman captain his country? Did everyone in England then turn on him and think he was a disgrace or were they just not bothered because he wasn't much of a player anyway?

Macklin is a conman, he even played for Tipperary as a kid just he could one day sell a few more tickets if you decided to take up professional boxing instead of doing law!
