Not blowing smoke up your arse but without knowing Burns or having met him you can see what you say is right. The only person I ever met who knew him gave him a great name. That makes your ordinary fan root for him.Just hope Harrison can sort himself out,for all kinds of reasons.
We tried to get Lee up to spar but he was going out to the states at the time maybe another time, yes he's a excellent boxer
Moog on a serious note do you really think Scott could beat Ricky now or when Scott was in his prime? As I've said before I've worked with both and Ricky is genuinely much the better! It's nothing to do with who pays my wages I earn my wages mate every penny and did when with Scott also.
I will be able to answer the question at present after the walsh fight, when he was younger without a question of a doubt, a level above Ricky. Ricky like's to hold a lot, with the way Scott punched to the body he would have stopped him. Ricky has great speed but scott would have cut the ring off. Would have and still would be a great fight imo. So you must think Ricky is the best scottish boxer ever? if he is better than Scott who you thought was best ever only a few years ago. If Scott beats Walsh after all he has been through 9 a lot self inflicted don't get me wrong) it will be the greatest story ever in scottish boxing.
Getting a bit ridiculous here. Im a massive fan of harrison but in no way does he deserve a fight with Ricky, even if he beats Walsh, Walsh is a domestic fighter and although he was pencilled in for a world title fight that was a complete mismatch Iv had the pleasure of watching Ricky sparring and to say hes unreal is an understatement and for whatever reason the unification fights have not happened can not take any credit to where its due to what he has achieved so far. He won the super feather world title against martinez who is very credible and although at lightweight the opponents have not been as strong hes at the top of his game at say 28 years old. Unification fights will come and hearn wont blow smoke up his arse. Hell make the fights when the time is right for the burns camp. Peter and Scott Harrison are legends in scottish boxing so nothing billy has stated is false in his comment from 2009.
Don't talk pish mate,Ricky failed twice at domestic level, turned it round and won world titles at two weights far greater in comparison. Scott would have been totally outboxed by Ricky and Ricky would have won clearly. The reason and it's obvious to everyone bar you is Ricky wasn't world level in 2009 that's why Scott would have been held in greater esteem FFS, all different now remember never beat in a world title fight and counting
i have an i agree with your comments about Scott being the best in 2009. Jamie 2011 misses a point Ricky has turned down these unification fights already and at 30 years of age that is not wise. I agree about Hearn, he seems the best promoter in UK, comes across as honest and straight laced unlike most promoters
Billy i actually agree with you ! Ricky has been a far better professional and has conducted himself far better, and comes across as a lovely bloke who would have time for anyone (the fact he still works part time in a sports shop sums that up perfectly). But look at football, Baxter, Gazza, Jimmy Johnstone all nowhere near as good as professionals as many other players for looking after there-self away from the pitch, but they where all genius, Harrison is a boxing equivalent. it was hard enough for me to watch his self destruction, how you and his dad felt i do not know, can only imagining. But if and YES its a big If he can turn his life around and win a major title in a weird way that will be as big an achievement from a role model point of view, as it will show people even if you make loads of mistakes in life you can always comeback stronger by getting away from your bad behaviour patterns and look to make immense.
As much as im a fan of Harrison and Burns as fighters there is no way any of them are right now the best Scottish fighter of all time, its not even up for debate lads so i wouldn't argue. Its quite shocking that the likes of Buchanan and Lynch arnt more famous in Scotland among casual fans and there's other great Scottish fighters who dont get a mention. lynch was way before his time, dynamic and explosive. Buchanan a superb technician and seriously teak tough. Harrison will never be the best Scottish figher. The Rickster has a chance if he gets the big fights and beats elite fighters. I think Ricky could step up and beat the likes of Danny Garcia right now, most of the glamour guys at 140 are seriously overrated.
32 pages for basically a domestic level fight.. Some silly people who clearly know nothing about boxing trying to bring Ricky Burns into the equation.. 1. Ricky would Destroy both Liam and Scott he is 3 or 4 levels above both if these.. 2. This prime question isn't valid Scott isn't in his prime and Ricky is so end of the day.. 3. Peter Harrison is one of the best coaches if not the best in British boxing just a shame he doesn't focus more on fighters who may have a big future. 4. In 2009 Scott Harrison was arguably Scotland's greatest ever boxer along with Ken Buchanan in 2013 if Ricky keeps winning and becomes World Champion at light welter he will become Scotland's greatest.. He is very close now.. 5. Ricky gets great sparring the list Billy has given you is incredible and he has left lots out like Paul Appleby.. John Simpson and Ronnie Clark. 6 Ricky is a great role model for up and coming boxers Scott is a bad influence people should be supporting a role model like Ricky. As for this fight.. Its prob a 70/30 in Walsh's favour even if Scott manages to pull off a mini upset he should be looking at the British/European title after that which he would have more chance of winning. As the saying goes the proof is in the pudding and next week we will have the proof..
theres no point to pick up,ricky was training for a unification fight with Vasquez spent several thousand pounds on sparring and the fight got postponed that is in no way Ricky fault,so how can you say he turned the fight down. Granted he said no to the Broner fight because 7 weeks prep isnt enough for that fight
I was delighted for him when he beat Martinez, especially after being decked hard in the first round. Considering Ricky hadn't really earned his shot at the time, it was a big win. Though really, considering Martinez lost nearly every round to Nicky Cook before finding the punches it wasn't that much of an upset. Katsidis.... I don't think you'd mind me saying that Mick wasn't what he was - Marquez took something from him clearly. Saying that, I picked him to win by stoppage, and was wrong, I ate my words. :good
