Tyson Fury represented Ireland as an amateur several times and Matt Macklin won an All Ireland Hurley title with Tipperary U19's.
I don't get why it has to be so black and white, for me they can be Irish as well as British rather than instead of. Macklin and Fury are both ethnically Irish but also part British by default as they were born and grew up here even if they prefer to identify with their Irish roots. Doesn't really bother me, I'll still watch and support them both just the same and in terms of making good business sense you can hardly have a go at them.
@ BlackBrenny That's fine - and actually I agree in a way. You should wear one if that's what your views are, rather than because everyone else does, and if someone has a valid reason for not wanting to wear one, that's fine by me. The whole thing has become politicised, like Help for Heroes. I've got a HfH hoodie that I sometimes wear to go running, and a couple of t-shirts that I bought for £5 to wear around the house if I'm not doing anything. It's hardly a major statement, nor something that should offend Muslims or those utterly ******ed Unite Against Fascism people, or anyone else that might find it offensive. Those serial complainers need to get a life!
Leave him alone! Tyson is a lovely big lad who knows the score; milk the Irish/ Irish American angle whilst laying down some heavy tarmac in this country then applying for retrospective planning permission afterwards. Top o' the mornin' to ya
his mother is a norn iron protesant.... and his father a jew...wat a combination it doesnt get much more right wing fascist than that..... as already stated he sounds like a member of the BNP... but the ironic thing is i would imagine they wouldnt want any part of him cause of his jewish heritage an allgood
Actually what Fury represented Ireland as an amateur after it became apparent he would not make the GB olympics. He did exactly the same thing. But well done for managing to reference a member of the Khan family. :thumbsup
How the **** can he be Irish when he was born in Manchester... That's like me saying im African when I was born in Ascot, Berkshire... Its the same ****ing thing.. Tyson Fury is abit of a confused man but I like him
And further more the op is a moron, who has clearly paid no attention to Fury's career to date. In an interview broadcast before his debut on ITV, he declared that he was 'Irish representing GB'. Those were his exact words. He has always stated that he regarded himself as Irish. Even when he was the British title holder he vocalised a desire to win the Irish title. He has been thoroughly consistent in his stance throughout his pro career - this is not late in the day opportunism.
You're Irish. Of course you won't like it when I say there's nothing special about being Irish. Why are Fury and Macklin amongst others so desperate to be seen as Irish when they're clearly English. Don't say "because his parents are Irish and he's based in Ireland". My dad was an appliance fitter, doesn't mean I automatically know how to use power tools or that I should be an appliance fitter too. Blood and genes means nothing really in this case, it's all about where you're born and brought up. Fury's a Mancunian.
