I've got a feeling Gavillan would wear him down and take it right down to the wire but your spot on about ruling the era. An incredible fighter but prone to the odd mishap now and then

Leonard was waaaaay behind when he caught Tommy in the 14th. He was getting a boxing lesson.

Remember..."You're blowing it, son. You're blowing it." ?

That was at the end of the 12th. By today's rules, the fight would have been over and Tommy would have had a clear victory.

Tommy was the better boxer through most of that fight.

I believe he would have learned enough from that as to not repeat his mistakes in any rematch.

When they did finally rematch, Tommy again outboxed the shorter man decisively.

 

It's hard to keep these things straight. I think the leg massage was vs Hagler. Tommy was just overtrained for Leonard. This all reminds me of lying to a girlfriend. If you make **** up it's hard to keep it straight as time goes on. Nothing against Tommy. Seems most great fighters have their excuses for losses.

Tommy would need no excuses against the group mentioned. He'd beat them all.

 

Beating Hearns at welterweight will take a great welterweight, and probably a natural welerweight e.g. somebody who did not step up to the weight.

See, I don`t think so. Tito gets dropped too easily, and with his chin against Hearns, he gets dropped and finished. Osacr is in trouble because he can`t hold hearns at bay,and he`s very hittable. so i think he gets dominated over 12 or most likely stopped. And I agree Pac gets drilled, early...

 

I think he would beat them all. I think Tito would be the toughest. Tommy did well with faster fighters, but the ones who made it a fight sometimes made it tougher, although I think Tito would be open for his right hand and jabs and Tommy would stop him in 2 or 3. Sometimes the guy you would not think would be tough would be tougher for him, and the guys you think would beat him or were better wouldn't. Leonard was the perfect guy to beat him. Great defense and good punch and will to win and look for openings. Ray was one of a kind.

You know, it`s worth looking at and considering that Hearns from SRL 1 was doing a great job and that it was just SRL`s perfect night to get it done. Honestly, if they fought a rematch right away Hearns would have been a real live underdog to get that payback. SRL had the CHIN, power, skills and amazing resilience to hang in and hang tough to get it done... I can`t see Tito and Oscar being able to take what SRL did, and come out the winner ...
