Last time a top lb-4-lb fighter got schooled by someone with 11 pro fights.

I defy anyone to come up with another example.

 

you aint going to find it this is a 1st, However the last fighter beating an established world champion with that few fights from what I can recall as of now that would be Holyfield over Qawi

 

Rigo is a veteran of over 400 amateur fights and I'm sure he had it rough coming up through the ranks of the Cuban am system. This is certainly a case where his pro record doesn't tell the whole of the story...

 

For sure. But then again, we can come up with a long list of examples of top amateur fighters who amounted to little or nothing in the pros.

I know Ali didn't get schooled by Spinks, but he did lose while being the reigning champ to a 6-0-1 fighter. Totally different from being schooled as you've asked, but just throwing it out there since you inserted the 11 pro fight part

There weren't P4P ratings in the 20's, but Fidel LaBarba fits the bill, winning the World Flyweight Title in his 11th fight at the age of 19, only a year out of high school, over Hall of Famer Frankie Genaro, who was 41-3-3 and had wins over greats like Pancho Villa. You want a tough start to your career? 3 of Fidel's first 5 fights were against Jimmy ****ing McClarnin.

To be fair he might not even have been half as good. The Cuban amateur system engrained those fundamentals into him fight after fight. He fought some 20-25 fights a year, and while they were obviously only 3 or 4-rounders, each one mattered, each one was a W or L on his record, and he only lost a small fraction of them.

 

I found it interesting that the ref was such a stickler about Rigo putting his hand behind Donaire's head and pivoting. Bradley commented that this is a Cuban technique taught in the amateurs for turning an opponent. Other refs let far worse than that slide all the time. It was actually a pretty slick move. Donaire didn't know how to deal with it, that's for sure.
