He looks huge in that pic granted, but a post sweat session pic that may of lasted 2-3 hours isnt gonna change my mind, Melendez carries excess body fat at 155 that does not need to be there, its not Gil's physical dimensions that makes me think this, its his body fat percentage, he should be at 145 IMO, the fact he is generally inactive, and can get to 180 in between camps is probably the reason he's still at 155
****, I've never seen Melendez that shredded. (Not even when I close my eyes and shamelessly shake my little weiner to him and the rest of the amazing scrap pack.) From what I remember he's always a tiny bit flabby. I wish he'd choose to go back to FW if he could.
I made a thread not too long ago about whether Gil' could make it back to 145. I think the MUCH better route to go would've been Aldo-Melendez and Bendo-Pettis II. Saying that, as above Gil' looks in much better shape then he usually does.
I have to concur with Vic here, hopefully wrong. But both are what Id regard as spoiler grapplers for the most part and neither have the power to put the other away.Think they will by and large neutralist each other Gonna be a close un I think
For me Melendez's future is at 45, it will take a defeat or two to get him there, not something I want to see happen as I like the guy, terrific fighter, real strategic wizard, totally calm in application and everything measured to perfection, a real solid mentality about him. Somebody his age with these attributes shows a real pedigree for the potential to be a special fighter! I fear the absolute worst for him against Bendo I really do. Then I'm thinking of the likes of Maynard and Jim Miller I just don't see Melendez beating these guys, I'd like to see him at 145 healthily. In my mind he's an undersized Lightweight, and thats something you don't wanna be in todays LW division
Maybe spoiler evoked images of lay and pray, which I didnt mean to do, just think these guys are pretty even and it will result in a stalemate. Hopefully i reverse jinx this and it ends up as FOTY
It's all really odd. The Featherweight champion fighting the last lightweight to defeat the Lightweight champion who, in turn, is fighting one of (probably 3rd) greatest featherweights of all time.
Three FOTN's (one of which voted FOTY) in that 7 fight streak of decisions. I'm always entertained by Bendo fights. He always goes hard, just (usually these days) can't find the finish for whatever reason.
What is Mir's problem? Cormier is probably going to retire him yet he's being the biggest dick ever. Strange. [yt]suMtY6Tktgc[/yt]
